I just put a gy240 gyro on my custom LMH. I cannot seem to get the AVS setting to work correctly. Either the tail is hunting or I get erratic, extreme swings left or right.
I put the gy240 on as a replacement for a much cheaper gyro (MGP10). Has anyone else had this problem with a gyro with AVS? The standard setting works ok at 100%.
Thanks,
notasme

I dont have a gy240. all my gyros are 401's yet i think the 240 requires avcs to be set on the gyro instead of channel 5. On the 401, you have to have it set to avcs before applying power. You know you are in avcs when the gyro initializes and the light is solid red.
anyway, it sounds as though you have a direction switch problem or revo is not turned off in your transmitter.

Fitz21.
Revolution mixing is turned off the servo is correct. The gyro works fine when AVS is off. Yes, I turn off the power before turning on AVS.

BarracudaHockey,
Do you have any idea what I am doing wrong. I am assuming that you have a 240 and AVS works for you.
Gyro is stable at 100% (AVS OFF) and no tail wag.
Turn off power to REC.
Turn ON AVS.
Tail wag.
Reduce % a little at a time.
tail wag stops - tail swing begins.
I thought that AVS would give more stability.

When you give full left/right rudder does the slider hit either the tail hub or tail case? If yes then your servo arm is too long or your linkage isn't centered.
If it doesnt have enough movement to nearly hit the taili case and or hub then its too short.
This is with your rudder end points at 100/100 where they should be for any heading hold gyro.
