Default Lipo Battery Question

Is it normal for a lipo battery to puff out slightly after a non-stop agressive flying session?
I was flying My Corona 120 last night (2100 mAh 11.1v 3 cell Lipo w/mega brushless motor) and after I landed the heli's lipo was hot and the lipo looked to be puffed out slightly, I was afraid it might blow up so I did not charge it after last nights flight, and in the morning the lipo went back to it's normal shape so im charging it now. The lipo is about a year old, should I get a new lipo?

Most likely. I am pretty sure the lifespan of lipos is about 1 year. My eyes ALWAYS play tricks on me with lipos though. I always think they are a little puffed, or are puffing. Drives me nuts

Default RE: Lipo Battery Question

How long of a flight do you get out of that lipo?

Are you running it until the heli won't fly anymore?

I run my lipos down to about 3.5 volts per cell or so and have not had any puffing whatsoever. Depending on the cell and manufacturers reccomendations you may be running too low. I think if the pack reaches 140 degrees you are in the danger zone and may have cooked it.

Time your flights or set the cutoff in the speed controller higher maybe to prevent overdischarging

Default RE: Lipo Battery Question

I fly until the heli cant fly anymore, which is about, 5-9 minutes, depending upon if the wind helps me or if the heli is flying in dead calm air, in which case the heli is doing all the work, and the pack reads about 10.49 volts after every flight. But I decided to ground the heli until my new lipo arrives, the old lipo is about a year old anyway, not getting the flight time like I use to. I get much more flight time from my other corona which is the same weight as the first corona, but has a newer lipo, so I do see a difference......
