hehe......I just start laughing everytime I picture the heli knocking out a light and yea....hehe...Theres much better forms of birth control then crashing into your crotch IMHO:D

I was wokring with my caronna on my workbench and testing my new servo horns for travel, making sure nothing is binding, got the tx in one hand, and a screwdriver in the other. I hit the wrong stick by accident and set my speed controll at full, got a blade rite in the face, made me bleed but i survived to tell the tale. Well after hitting me on the face it jumped rite off the table, landing on the floor! missaligned gears, rotor head intact, bent landing gear, snapped elastic band, thats it, this sure is one tough helli! shame my face doesnt compare.... lol, so thats my story!

I had an incident much like gzmann's.

When I first built my LMH I also had the switch positioned where up is off. I had a hard landing and the radio turned off. Lucky for me the last input was a aft-left cyclic and the helicopter flew itself into the ground backwards without much damage. Oh but it gets better.... Sometime after correcting the switch issue I did another hard landing but this time the switch got PULLED to the off position by some weeds. Once again the helicopter took off on its own accord. It mantained full throttle and some foward cyclic that sent it shooting away. And once again I got lucky, this time a chain link fence put a halt to the high-speed low flying antics of my free flight LMH.

Other runaway LMH incidences have come about when my muffler fell off (two seprate times) and led to full throttle runways. Both times I was able to avoid complete catastrophie by flying the helicopter into the ground with minimal damages. Broke off canopy mounts, dented tail boom, lost z-link, that's about it.

I tried to fly under a sign once that was mounted about 3 feet off the ground by two metal poles also about 3 feet apart. My limbo was attempted at the same time as a slight gust of wind (or maybe it was just inprecise flying, the world will never know) and the blades shattered in a pretty impressive show.

I've flown into my leg but cut the throttle just before impact so it didn't really hurt that bad. I can't say the same for another guy I've met. He was flying a huge heli, I think it was a .90 or something else that was pretty big. He was reaching over to slow the rotor-head with the palm of his hand and the rotor dinged him in the knee. Looked like it really hurt...

Besides all that I've done some pretty stupid things with my LMH and I think i've never spent more than 30 dollars fixing crashes that should have cost me hundreds had I been flying any other helicopter.

Thi swasn't a crash as such, but it was a bit painful

One of the new guys in my (mainly fixed-wing) flying club saw the pilot of a .30-size heli having a spot of bother. The pilot told him that the heli's engine wasn't responding to the throttle stick at all. He'd landed the heli ok, but the engine was still was running at around half-throttle

"Not to worry," said the new guy, "I'll fix it for you," as he ducked down and made to nip the fuel tube, thereby cutting-off the fuel supply to the carb. Unfortunately, in his rush to show-off his engine-stopping abilities, he seemed to completely overlook the fact that the heli's blades were whizzing-around at a fair old rate. He also seemed oblivious to the fact that they were coming very close to his face as he reached for the fuel tube . . . . Yep, he soon solved the pilot's problem alright, but not in the way he intended

The blades caught him in the corner of his mouth, neatly extending it's width to almost double the size it was immediately before he was struck! The force of the hit caused the heli to fall-over and "thrash itself to pieces" in the grass - and maybe you can picture the pilot jumping up and down screaming, "You Idiot!" While the injured guy was running-around, holding his head and screaming, "Get an ambulance!"

I'd guess the new guy had seen some of the fixed-wing pilots stopping their engines by nipping the fuel tube at the end of their flying sessions, so that the engine ends-up dry. Definitely not to be recomended where helis are concerned

The facial repair took quite a few stitches, and the resultant scare still looks kind of scary. But even worse was to come (well, it seemed "even worse" at the time!) . . . . He was actually supposed to be working when the accident happened, so when he explained to his boss that he'd been at the flying field instead of working - he was sacked! Bet he really regrets trying to lend a hand that day
