Default Diff Shims

I think I will need shims for my diffs since I'm getting the upgrade kit for my LST. What set do I need? The set with 5mm/6mm shims or the set with 13mm shims?

This is the kit:
http://www.losi.com/Products/Feature...rodId=LOSB0014
I used this kit to upgrade my (now stolen) Aftershock to LST2 spec. The only parts that don't come in this kit to make it an official lst2 is the 2spd hubs, and throttle/brake linkage AFAIK.
As far as shims go, you'll need both sets. 6mm shims for the pinion and 13mm for the diff itself. I bought the 5&6mm shim set (Losi LOSA6356) and 13x16x.20mm shim set (HPI 86598) to shim the diffs and transmission on my newest LST2 (scratch build from spare parts). The only reason I bought the HPI set is a) it was cheaper and b) they were out of the Losi ones but they are the same thing anyhow. There is a how-to on shimming LST2 diffs here: http://hdrcvideos.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=15378. If done right, they will last a long time.

One other thing - The upgrade kit comes with new chassis braces. When I was going to put them in, they ended up being the same identical braces that were on the Aftershock so I didnt change them. I didnt swap the transmission case either because the Aftershock already had the Forward Only transmission. If you do a FOC, the FOC kit comes with plugs for the trans case where the high/low selector and reverse linkage would go.

Will the 5mm/6mm actually be used on the diff though? I mean if not, then I won't get it, and in the how-to, there was nothing that had to do with 5mm/6mm shims.

Like I said - the 6mm shim is for the pinion gear in the diff case. (what the driveshaft connects to - small gear that drives the diff's ring gear) I forgot to mention that it isnt stated in the how-to. If you read towards the bottom of that page "wrecked" asked what size shims are needed and "Valinote" answered. 11th post from the bottom. You may or may not need them but you won't know until you take them apart. Every diff case is a little different. Some need shims and some don't. Generally, they do though. I had to add 2 shims to the pinion and 4 or 5 to the diff to get the teeth meshed and lined up right to the pinion.
