LRP 28 Spec 2 Trash???
I stuck my LRP back in a couple days ago and thought I had some tuning issues. I figured I had an air leak somewhere but everything was already sealed so I was stumped. The motor took alittle longer to die down to an idle and would occasionally rev up at idle. My temperatures never went over 240 as I tried tuning my LSN only (because I figured I had the HSN where I wanted it). So I'm running it and pull it in to make some adjustments and I figured I'd check my glow plug to see how it was doing and I about puked when I saw metal shavings!!! [:@] So I took the LRP out and knew it wasn't gonna be good. I took the back plate off and the first thing I noticed was the connecting rod bearing was disintegrated. It was just sloppy where it connected to the crank. So, how, why, what the heck would cause this? Could it have been anything I've done? I can honestly say I thought I really had the tuning thing down so I'm thinking I couldn't have done it. I keep a close eye on my temps for being low and high. I try not to let em get under 200 and over 240. But anyway, the connecting rod wore a nice groove in my crank case so I'm really not sure I can save it. There are shavings everywhere. What now? I only have at the most 3/4 gallon through this. I'm alittle disappointed. $160 isn't really a big deal but I'm thinking I should still call LRP or Team Associated and talk to them. What do you guys think? I hate to just go out and buy another LRP Spec 3 after this incident (besides I got my eye on the STS 28 which is probably the same engine somehow LOL). []

Yes call Associated, I have three LRP's with anywhere up to six gallons and I could use any of them to race right now....... The STS is not like a LRP, it has fewer ports.

I threw my receipt away last week so my wife wouldn't find it. LOL You think this will be a problem? I have the original box and paper work though.

It shouldn't be an issue realistically, just give them a bell. If you where in the UK the distributor wouldn't be suprised at all, for some reason I have seen SO many blown LRP/SH engines with destroyed conrods. They should sort you out though.
Oh and the STS 28 is a completely different engine, its not as rev'y as the LRP but its got awesome power, its as reliable and easy to tune and cheaper still, overall its a cracking motor for the money.

I just think those connecting rod failures can happen in any engine. My HPI .28 did that with the bottom bushing, but gave the rod so much clearance, it cracked the crankcase on the bottom.
I have an STS .28 finished the 7th gallon in a Savage and when I pulled the backplate to check inside the engine, last week, the rod bearing looked just like new. Who knows, luck or STS's are really good. I have another STS .28 that doesn't have as much fuel through it, but works like new, every time.

Of course none of these Golden Lion engines have a bushing on the rod at the wrist pin..........................but I've had my best luck with the LRP's.

Well, I sent it back today. How long you think I'll wait? Do they call me? Do I call them? Or do I just wait it out until something shows up or I get a phone call some day?

Gold lion is the parent company that stamps out the cases and sleeves ETC for LRP, XTM, SH, dynamite (i think, the M427's crank case looks almost identicle to the LRP spec 2's).

Yep, they claim at Team Associated that just taking the backplate off will void your warranty. BS!!!

What? So the Mach 427 is the same as a LRP Spec 2?

RE: LRP 28 Spec 2 Trash???
Hey, I don't think (maybe) I told you guys in this thread or the "Am I Getting Bullied?" thread, but Team Associated claims that they've only received a handful of LRP 28's back because of conrod bearing issues. Jason (whom I spoke with at TA), claims that he's only seen 1 back that was factory defective. All the others he claims were caused by using Spin Start. He said that customers are flooding their engines and hydro-locking them and causing conrod/bearing issues. I see the point he's making, but I call BS! Why haven't we heard of these problems with the Mach 427? Who knows? What do you guys think?
