need some help

Hey all. I just got my LST2 today and i gotta say this truck looks awsome. but im really having a tough time getting it started to do the break-in. it will start and run untill i take the glow ignighter off, then dies. and then i have a REALLY hard time getting it to start again. I've been into R/C for quite a long time but this is my first nitro truck. I havn't adjusted the needle vavles at all but it seems like the engine is getting flooded cause the plug is soaked and there is fuel collecting in the muffler. is there some thing im doin wrong? any help would be gladly apreciated. I really wanna get this thing out on the track.
Thanks
-Ryan

If it dies as soon as you pull the ignitor off it's most likely one of two things.
First thing to do is lean the hsn about 1/4 turn and try again. If you can pull the ignitor and it tries to run you may need to lean it a bit more. Maybe 1/8 turn at a time untill it will continue to run. Just don't go too lean.
If it still dies as soon as the ignitor is remove after the first adjustment, put in a new glow plug.
To get the engine to start easier, heat the engine with a heat gun and back the glow plug out 1/4 to 1/2 turn and tighten it back down as soon as the engine starts running.

Sounds like a fouled glow plug. It happened to me while trying to start my LST2 for the first time. If you're taking your glow plug igniter off and it's dying that means your glow plug is not staying hot cherry red. While your glow plug igniter is on, the glow plug will stay hot enough to keep your engine running. Try replacing your glow plug and see where that gets ya. ;)

Thanks guys i'll give that a try and see how it goes. the only other thing is that after i get it started, and it dies, it wont start back up unless i pull out the plug and flip the truck over and run the starter a bit to dump out all the extra fuel. and the muffler dumps out a bunch of fuel too. is this just because its too rich? or somthing eles?

Sounds too rich. Try leaning it out 1/8th of a turn. Glow plugs can foul easily if the mixture is way too rich.

The LSN is way too rich, mine was the same way, the HSN was set pretty well though. If you keep running it like that you will kill many plugs and the engine will never get up to 200F like you need it to. You want the truck to run clean & crisply with plenty of smoke, you don't want the engine choking on fuel.

WOO HOOO! it was just runnin to rich. not that plugs are expencive or anything, I just really wanted to get this thing running tonight. I'll try messing around with the LSN tomorrow. Is it just me or is that thing really hard to get to with the hi-low gear selecter in the way?

Yep, that LSN is a b**** to get to. Leave the needle settings be now. If it runs, and you get the temps to 200 degrees, don't touch the needles. Making it too lean will ruin your engine, and you will be unhappy

yup, you want that temp between 200-220degrees. and all things being well, you should have horrible performance from it . but thats what you want. it should be painfully rich, but still maintaining good temp.

RE: need some help

Ok so i've got about 4 tanks through it now and have already fouled a plug. (not too suprised because its so rich.) So my question now is where do i go with the tuning? I'm running at about 200-230F so if i lean it out its gonna get really hot. What temps do you guys normaly run? BTW its about 70F outside today.

You will go through a couple of glow plugs during break-in. That's normal. Just leave it like it is

typically after a proper break in, you should be able to lean it up and try to get in the ballpark of 250-260. you engine will preform the best in this range. you will get the most efficientcy and good power.. try not to get about 275. but ive heard of some running in the 285 -300 mark without issues. but im guessing life span to rebuild would be a bit sooner in that range.... if you have great power/idle/response/spoolup and are running 220 - 230. sounds good to me.. wouldnt change a thing.

I run well in the 220-230 range myself. could go higher, but I figure why; has plenty of power.

decide if you need to wring out a little extra power from it or not.

I personally favor an extra gallon of life from the engine over a bit of performance. if I was rich or a hardcore racer, Id think differently.

of course if 220-230 leaves it downright sluggish, then do what you gotta do to make it run well.
