Plus one each in F1B and F1C. Expense deterred six other qualified members, I believe

Perhaps it is worth pointing out that this is not a closely guarded secret. Every team manager puts in a report that has been published in our magazine. And every year the FAI rep puts in a report which is passed to the board and to the ACC. So your Zone Director has this at his fingertips.

In most categories only a team of 3 can be selected - 6 in such events as C/L Team Racing.

One year figures are misleading as FAI World Championships are held on every other year. So it's better to look at a two year set of figures. Also although a team may consist of 3 members there are also helpers and often a Team Manager too.

The FAI events in which Canadians normally compete include:
Free Flight
Glider (F1A), Rubber (F1B) also known as Wakefield, and Power (F1C)
Indoor Free flight rubber (F1D). There is also Magnetic controlled gliders (F1E) and 0.06 cu in power (F1J), but Canadians don't usually compete in these.

Radio Control
Soaring: (F3B) multi-task, winch tow and simplified thermal duration (F3J), with hand tow, which has replaced F3B for Canadians and most people.

Power: Aerobatics (Pattern) (F3A), Helicopter (F3C), Pylon Racing (F3D).
Electric powered models task event (F5B) and one other new one which escapes me for the moment.

Scale
Power: radio control (F4C), control line (F4B) There is no seperate event for jets.

Control line
Speed (F2A), Aerobatics ((F2B), Team Racing ((F2C) and Combat (F2D)

One interesting perspectve arising from all of this.....

Consider the number of MAAC members active enough to spend precious time debating these issues .... these must be some pretty deicated individuals.

Next, consider the number of FAI competitors that have shown up on these threads already .... a very dedicated bunch I would say.

--------------
Irrespective of the actual number of active competitors, in the last 2 years (number still being collected via this forum, a very inaccurate method when contrasted with the sources already suggested but not acted on, begging the question of the real intent...), I suggest that participating in a world level competition is a resource intensive (time, money, desire and ability). I do not have the resources to compete every 2 years in my discipline (FAI F4C). I was last in competition in 2002 but, this does not infer that I will not be competing again in the near (relative term) future. I'm sure this applies to many others. So.... if this questions nets a number (say 75 for argument's sake), this will not be representative of the total number of FAI competitors, as many of us (myself included) will not be represented.

The questions need to be asked. What will the answer provide? To what purpose is the question posed? Why is the poser of the question unwilling to seek out their answer via the accurate sources provided? What is the price of eggs in Paris? Inquiring minds want to know.

deicated? Hmmm -- certainly not deified.

I think that we know why the question is being asked publicly, rather than being accurately researched privately. Not that it really matters -- minds are made up -- on all three sides of the argument.

You mean you don't even see me as a lesser god?

Obviously I intended to type 'dedicated'

Sounds like a previous manager of mine ;
"My mind's already made up, this matter is closed" shortly followed by "you knew about this, why didn't you tell me", much later followed by the "you would have had a great performance review, if it weren't for that little incident you didn't follow up on." ... all referring to the same subject of course.[:@]

Actually since I asked the question I bet you don't.

Frankly I was looking for anecdotal information that would help me make an arguement to support international competition. I didn't get what I was hoping for and so didn't carry on with it.

Jeff,

What information are you lacking - I may be able to supply it now?

If it is the number of Sporting licenses issued, I can get that info from the MAAC office or Bruce Carter at the ACC office. If it is the numbers on our FAI Teams - that is on the annual reports from Jack Humphreys, and I may still have that. (I"m hedging a little because I have had a crash on my Mac internet browser that has destroyed some files). But one way or another, I can get it.

Regards,

Dave

Jeff

There are usually about 30 MAAC applications for FAI Sporting Licences a year and that was the case in '04. In 05 it was down to 19 - probably because of the expense of going to the competition sites last year along with the cut in MAAC financial support to team members.

Sorry you had to wait so long for this info.

I've heard from Jack Humphreys.

The figure for 2005 is 12. I believe 18 were selected but two members each (for a total of six plus a team manager) on the F1A, F1B and F1C teams were unable to go to Argentina.

The breakdown is as follows:
F1A Argentina - 1
F1B Argentina - 1
F1C Argentina - 1
F3A France - 3
F3C Spain - 3 plus Team Manager
F3D France - 3

Canada did not participate in F1E Free Flight Slope Gliders (Slovakia), and F3B R/C Multitask gliders (Finland).

In each event competitors compete for individual awards, and the teams compete for the national award. Obviously the incomplete teams would not be competitive for the national award. This has happened to other nations in the past. In the past some free flight entry models were sent for proxy flyers from the host nation to fly. However the importance of individual flying skills is now such that this does not now happen.

You can go in and edit it,erasing all but a brief OOOps or some such.

Dave,

Only 2 competed in F3D, I beleive a 2 callers were MAAC members..not sure about team manager.

http://france-f3dwc.site.voila.fr/re...sultatsUK.HTML

As well only 2 competed in F3C, as well I beleive Scott's dad was manager ,also a MAAC member. Leon Luke was obviously registered as he is on the list but was not competeing based on scores.

http://wc2005-f3c.helcom.es/scores.htm

F3A, sent 3, as well as manager being a MAAC member

I heard through the grapevine that the F1 guys did not send full teams because of the travel fund cut.

Ajax is missing from that list. I know we made a donation but, I understand it was sent late due to an oversight .... it was sent though.
