Not modelling but...... "To Kill an American"

Sorry fellas, but this isn't about modeling, but something I think all should read.

You probably missed it in the rush of news last week, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American.

So an Australian dentist wrote the following to let everyone know what an American is... so they would know when they found one. (Good on ya, mate!!!!)
(This is an item from Canadian Radio Talk show host, Charles Adler's website at http://charlesadler.com

To Kill an American

An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek.

An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani, or Afghan.

An American may also be a Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans.

An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim.

In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan . The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses.

An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.

An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world.

The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence, which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.

An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need.

When the Soviet army overran Afghanistan 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country!

As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan.

Americans welcome the best, the best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the best athletes. But they also welcome the! least.

The national symbol of America, The Statue of Liberty, welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America.

Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11, 2001 earning a better life for their families. I've been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 other countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists.

So you can try to kill an American if you must.

Hitler did.

So did General Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and every bloodthirsty tyrant in the history of the world.

But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself. Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American.

Author unknown

Pass this around the World

The people who built and designed the Constitution and American government were mostly white, highly educated, wealthy males.

But other than that it was fairly good

Curious comment -- the document itself is an inspired work & stands on its own merits (there was no other like it in the history of the world at that time, & precious few even now) -- who cares about the racial & social backgrounds of the authors?

Perhaps he was referring to the fact that at the time the Constitution was written, Blacks were enslaved and women didn't have rights...

Quite frankly I think the original post is inaccurate and polyanic in its view of the united states. They welcome only the tired and poor that they want. Their education system is extremely poor (a frind of mine just moved his family south of teh border. His grade 4 son was suddenly TWO YEARS ahead of his classmates ...they are home schooling now. ) The may be the most prosperous, but they also have extremely high poverty and homeless rates.Their healt care system sucks, and the fact about WWII is that they joined the effort only after being attacked, and almost 2 years after Canada declared war on Germany.

The USA has a habit of touting its generosity, but I suspect that when numbers are looked at per capita - the story would change. BUt none of this has anything to do with modeling - or specific people

RE: Not modelling but...... "To Kill an American"

Yikes Keith!

..........that's the kind of down the nose, arrogant elitist attitude seeping from North of the border that's earning us a "snobbish" rep as of late. We seem to have a habbit as of late, of resting on our past history....particularly our military history ...when we used to actually have respect for backing up our tough talk. Yes, we had a heroic and exceptional history of being there when push came to shove despite our relatively small size. We burried, "SMokey Smith" in the last few days, one of our last true military heros.

Our military people are every bit as brave as in the past, but our politicians, lack of commitment to our serving members, cowardice and self-serving theivery are making us a laughing stock. Our wonderful fundamentals, which you believe are so vastly superior breed fools like Carolyn Parrish who are nothing more than national embarrassments.

You also have some nerve slamming someone else's health system when ours is ranked somewhere near the bottom in service for developed nations and is full of waste and unecessary death. Folks hear will cling to a few scattered stories of "poor" people dying because they didn't have medical insurance while many more die here on waiting lists for life saving surgery because nobody has the balls to stand up and say OUR system is seriously flawed and needs more than MORE money tossed at it.

I may not agree with many ways in which the US do or run things, but I firmly believe before you begin to spout off about another country, particularily a nation that WE have rode the backs for many, many years, you had better first look at the mess that exists in Ottawa.

We have no right to snub our noses at the US when we have established theives running our nation.

The basic point of the letter is to point out, regardless of how you wish to spin it, the US and a couple of nations with balls ultimately wish to establish free and democratic societies world wide. Their country is based on Freedom, as should every country. The tyrants of the past and present are bent on destruction and the death of those who would impose freedom on the people they supress for their own personal gain. Those "leaders" cannot be reasoned with, or negotiated with like our left-leaning government would suggest. Freedom is earned and is not free. When push comes to shove, you have to have the balls to get in the trenches and root the *******s out and eliminate them. There is no "easy" way. Just ask Smokey Smith.

Wow. You missed that by a few light years. You must be a young person.

The US kept Britain & Canada afloat in WWII with equipment loans & gifts, long before they actually joined in the fighting. They essentially supported Europe (Germany included) single-handed following WWII, until the Europeans could get back on their feet (with US money). Ditto for Japan, Taiwan & Korea. Their money and technology single-handedly kept NATO & NORAD together & effective, ensuring that the ever-whining & squabbling Europeans could continue to whine & squabble in freedom, at a time when they had real and deadly enemies (who also threatened Canada & the US).

Their universities put ours to shame & their productivity does as well. Their economy is ~ 1/4 of the entire global economy & hence carries everyone else on their backs, very much including the myopic & ungratefull Canadians.

Didn't mean to start anything, I was just pointing out that those are not the people that built america. The people who built america's government and america as a seperate nation were well off and not the homeless or the poor. No doubt the people who wrote it deserve much credit for being the first to do something like that, but the country was built by the wealthy. The poor didn't have a say in how the country or the government was created.

Again, sorry to have gotten some people upset.

Blacks were enslaved in Africa, as well. Women had few rights elsewhere in the world. look at Israel NOW. 229 years after that sacred document went into effect, women still have no rights.

Learn something about the world.

Also, skier, yes, those who drafted the Constitution were white, highly educated wealthy males. Show me one country (England, Canada, etc etc) in which white, highly educated males are not "in charge", free or not, and I'll show you a disgruntled society (as a whole) with a crappy economy.

Before it gets spun too far, I only made one comparison to Canada in my post ... which was a second hand account of how bad their public education system was. I am in no way suggesting that Canada is perfect, but I also wouldn't suggest that Paul Martin is any more of a crook than GW Bush is.

As for the US's financial support of others during and after WWII - that is part of the responsibilites that come with being a large and rich nation, and serving the world community. Don't forget it took them being attacked in order to get them to fight. That said, you are right - I wasn't around then.

In more recent times, the US is a nation who holds up the statue of liberty as a symbol of their nation yet renames a food item top 'freedom fries' ... they shoudla sent back the statue.

You're right there. It should have been shipped COD back to France -- the bringer of justice & light to the poor & downtrodden.

A note to Skier -- women enjoy the same rights in Israel that they do here. It's Isreal's currently news-worthy neighbours who actively suppress women's rights.

First off, one person's (your friends) single account of a complete country's educational system is awfully narrowminded. I can give you a zillion failers within our system.

AGAIN, comparing Martin (a dithering, spineless, double-talking suit who held the purse strings of the country when his party was stealing from us and keeps his steamship company based in a forgien country so he can avoid Canadian Taxes) to another countries freely elected leader is stupid unless you have someone of proven stronger character here.

At least in the US, the majority of voters choose their leader and they only get 2 terms to screw things up. Here, 36% of the popular vote gets you a majority government with all the cards being held in one concentrated region, dictating morals to the other 64% ......
..............and we rarely can get rid of the idiots, hoping only for our perfect medical system to fail them like it does so many of the "commoners"?

It's crap Keith and doesn't wash for people who don't allow the CBC to do their thinking for them.

Who are you trying to kid? The males, white or not, are very much in charge in Japan.

Getting back to your comments about the delayed US entry into WWII. Canada was bound by treaty to Great Britain -- we had to go. We had no choice, but at the time plenty of Canadians wanted to turn their backs on Britain. A majority of Quebecers were quite prepared to watch Britain sink.

The USA had no such treaty obligation, yet despite that they gave billions in military aid to Canada and Britain, including 50 destroyers at a truly critical time when much of Britain's (& Canada's) convoy escort capability had been sunk. Those fifty ships were sorely missed by the US Navy when they were needed for their own forces. There was even an all-American Spitfire squadron flying in England prior to the US entry into hostilities.

The US placed trade embargos against the Axis powers to limit their ability to gather war material, while "neutral" countries like Sweden, Switzerland, Spain & Ireland traded freely with the Germans.

Your perception of history is typical of the modern Canadian attitude to the USA. That attitude sucks, & it ain't even honest.

Two quick points.

1) Both sides of the boarder have Canada/US bashers - your same Charles Adler pointed out a letter from an american who having perceived to have been slighted while in Canada, expressed his hope that the next terrorist event was in Canada and claimed millions. Seemed a little over the top.

2) Many of both our countries forefathers gave their lives so we would have the freedom to express our opinions (all though I'm not certain what they would think of the internet), even opinions we don't agree with.

I work very closely with US forces personnel and find them without exception to be hard working honest, dedicated individuals. As you point out Carolyn Parish is a bloody embarassment. And while it may currently be a poor political move I am not ashamed to state that I am damn glad the US are our neighbours.

RE: Not modelling but...... "To Kill an American"

I lived in a unique border town for almost 10 years, crossing the border daily and many times more than once using shared facilities. I hung out with flyers and friends from both sides. My son was in Scouts on the US side and many times I stood quietly prior to meeting, while allegience was pledged to the US flag. The everyday folks I met and hung out with were no different than I, wishing the best for their family in free countries.

Real differences were the price of gas, pronouncing "roof" and their extreme outward pride in their country...............(and we had better hockey players of course :D)

Good everyday people, friends and neighbours. No doubt there are bozos on both sides of the border spreading hate and trying to throw up barriers between us, but I can only apologize for those idiots who live on this side and do what I can to make changes here and vote for those who would improve our relations instead of drive us further apart.

Just a personal opinion but, once you start the flag waving (any country) an labels like Canadian or American the dvisions begin to appear. We're all people who happen to live on one or another side of some imaginary boundary.

Thanks for the support from our Canadian brothers. Refreshing to hear something other than negativity and harsh words from those outside the US. Yes, we've made more than our share of mistakes. We've also done a lot of good in the world. Kinda like most nations out there. ;)
