roofing
I know this isn't really the right spot, but........A question for any roofers out there. I pretty much finished my roof this weekend. I have trimming and capping left to do. What is the best way to trim the edges? I'm thinking about using a saws all. If I had it to do again, I would have trimmed as I went. Hind sight is good.......I hope I remember that 20 years from now. The project went pretty good as a whole, but the valleys and skylights sure slowed things down

RE: roofing
are you talking about the overhang on the gabels?
|
RE: roofing
also what type of shingles? ceader or ashfault?
|
RE: roofing
If it is asphalt here is what I did ... nail a 1x2 to the end rafters (only if you haven't put your facia on yet) and trim to that. You can use a special "hook" knife, or s\Stanley sells hook blades for there utility knives. Then remove the 1x2 and voila a straight edge with a 3/4 inch overhang.

RE: roofing
I would use a Jetcat P80 at about half throttle to gently heat the overhang. Then a brushless flatliner edge 540 in a good hover to clip the ends off. Theres no smoking in the pits so be sure to pick up after yourself or your going to ge a demerit!

RE: roofing
they are asphault shingles. I have the hooked blades. They just don't seem to work too good as cold as it is. Hopefully I'll have some decent weather this week to get it done. I may try some tin snips tomorrow. Thanks for the replies so far.

RE: roofing
IF YOU DON'T WANT TO CUT WITH A HOOK BLADE YOU CAN JUST CHALK A LINE AND CUT WITH A SMALL CIRCULAR SAW.
sorry about the capitals |
RE: roofing
The thought of Patch, a roof, a beer or two, and a circular saw is kind of scary. He has enough trouble cutting ribbons :), so cutting shingles represents a serious challenge to him. [:@]
An ambulance on standby might be a really good idea. :D |
