Will spring ever come?

How do you handle the winter blues, not being able to build and waiting for flying season to start?

Why would you not build during the winter months?

We don't suffer from that malady out here.........this is Vancouver Island! We get the 'Pinapple Express' up the Pacific from Hawaii and have a very moderate climate.

We get to fly every week! Outdoors we have a shelter complete with wood stove and one of the best flying sites in the country, and we fly indoor at a hudge equestrian centre.

There is a Monday float fly group that flys every week of the year and last year only missed three Mondays over the winter months because of rain. This year, not sure.

The biggest problem is.....there's no time to build.

Hello; It's true, we fly all year round here on the Island, but you can get a little bummed out if it rains. I'm going to Cuba for a month. That should help see me through it.

...... We hate guys like Frank and the Doc. No good Canadian warm climate dwellers. They'll be wishin they lived in La Salle, MB, suffering from "reverse-envy" when the big earthquake hits the coast. :D

RE: Will spring ever come?

Wrong Sharpy. Wetcoasters are all happy in the knowledge that when the big quake happens, the rest of the country will fall into the sea!

The BIG quake, that would be great. Then I'll have 'water front' property and can 100G's to the value. :D :D

Maybe you guys will get lucky and the SW zone will fall into the sea. No I don't think so, we would be the last ones standing and still causing trouble.

The biggest problem in my parts is the mud ... you can expect some yahoo to get their vehicle stuck in the Ajax driveway every spring ... it's been years since that yahoo was me. [&o]

Hi Frank, I may be going out to the Island this summer to visit relatives. Are you close to Whisky Creek? I think that it is SW of Qualicum Beach.

I have two young children and have to find some way to protect the build from little hands. There is the laundry room which can be converted. It's warming up and the work bench is available in the garage. If the garage was heated, I might have been able to use it over the winter.

Anyone else work in a heated garage over the winter for building? Should have asked this question in October or November. What are you using as a safe heat source.

Anyone.

I have a gas furnace in my workshop. Definitely an economical solution and I allow a little heat to spill over into the garage.
Quite nice to get into a warm car on those frosty mornings ... keeps the wife happy paying the extra gas bill too.:D

To hell with the snow -- On Sunday, I drove the car up the airfield access road until it stuck, then carried the flight box & two models a bit farther & flew seaplanes off the snow. Bright sun & ~ 9 C -- lovely afternoon -- a bit wet & muddy though. :D

9 degrees C. We're just getting that now. Actually at the rate the snow is disappearing, flying can't be more than a month away.

Hi there sivIE:

Our flying site is about 11 1/2 minutes from Whisky Creek. Make sure you get some ice cream cones (the best) at the WC store and wave at the goats on the roof in Coombs on your way over. Check out www.pdqflyers.com for everything you need to know.

See ya there........Frank

Well it's winter again. The kid's computer had a fatal power supply problem. I confiscated the table to build on. At last. Building season has arrived - 2007.

My gas furnace was starting to act weird this past week ( 3 yrs old) so we had the furnace guy come in and have a look. The furnace was running ok just coming on every 4 mins. The service guy took it apart and one of the sensors was covered in sawdust. Hmmmm don't know how that could of ever happened. Couldn't possibly been that balsa sanding i was doing in the basement 2 weeks ago. So 80 bucks later and the service guy was on his way and all he did was wipe off the sensor. Oh yeah the "wife" was not happy.

Grinder.
