Ive wanted to try using this as well. Here are some pics I found on RCU and saved for future reference.

There are carbon fiber vinyls available.

Certainly they cannot be used to cover a model, but they do lend themselves well to be used for decorative purposes over model coverings.

Stripes, graphics, lettering, checks, just to name a few uses.

These are peel n stick vinyls and they can be applied wet. Available in four colors. With one supplier the weave is on the diagonal. Another supplier, only offered in black. This one resembles the look of the carbon fiber in photo above. 5 mils thick.

This is all I know having read this from the supplier's catalog. I have never used this material.

Yeah, I've used it and like it quite a bit. I always get some good stares and asked if I CF'd the plane. From 5' away it looks like the real deal and is easy to work with. You treat it like wallpaper and make sure you are matching the pattern to make the job look better.

I have some other pix I just couldn't find them now. I've done about 4 planes with it.

Thats cool!  So doesn't the carbon fiber pattern get messed up when you shrink the covering?  It doesn't really look like it from the pictures but how is that possible?

Nah, no distortion at all.
There are two kinds one is grey and the other has a little gold in it. I prefer the gold since it showes up a little better. The grey (which looks like actual cf) tends to look black and not as eye catching.

Unfortunately the pic I have with that covering is hi-res and won't upload.

Many years ago I came up with a technique for painting carbon fabric look that may be of general interest. First I painted the dark color, metallic blue in my case. ThenI laid down shelf liner over that color; shelf liner with the small checkerboard pattern. Then Imisted a lighter color (silver grey) over and through that shelf liner from a longer distance than normal, maybe 12-18" or so.

The look from a few feet away was just like carbon fabric. I treated insignias and lettering that way for a unique look.

If I recall correctly, the carbon and kevlar-look rolls are 1/2 the normal length, but standard price.
