To many people think the old stuff isn't good enough any more. They gotta have the Yaks, Edges and Extra's to fit in. You are right. A Pitts is the sweetest bipe to fly. I owned 2 Byron 1/3 S 1 S planes and did they ever fly nice. I have a Royal Pitts still in the box. Don't know when I will build it. Maybe this year.

Was the s1 the radial version if so i always thought it was an ugly looking front end radially speaking.Mike agree with your sentiments.Jimmy i've been looking around for a pitts to suit an fa220 single or 300 saito twin, any ideas since great planes stopped making their one?

The radial pitts is the lastest design and yeah I find her rather ugly.
You can find the pitts s1 in the electric and 40 size but in the larger scales you can't find them.
The Christen Eagle is a knock off of the pitts and they are even harder to find.
I think it's a hard design to model because of all the high stress it goes through during some of it's violent tumbles and stunts.

I've had good luck with Hobby People. I have a couple of Black Horse planes and the quality is pretty darn good overall. The covering jobs are very nice.

+1 for Hobby People and Black Horse. I bought one of their Twisters a couple years ago when they were blowing them out for 50 bucks. By far, the plane I fly the most and the covering job is better than anything I've owned from Great Planes or World Models.

The Pitts is one of the coolest airplanes out there, but they are squirrely, with that little stubby rudder and the short coupling. Once they are airborne, they become incredible aerobatic machines. But that transition... from ground to air and then back, that's where they will bite you. I flew with a friend in a fullsize Christen Eagle 2, and the takeoff and landing are both periods of outright terror. You can't see a damn thing, and it's always trying to switch ends. The "rudder dance" you need to do on rollout is only for the very brave and skilled. From what I've seen of model Pitts, the same is true. As one old pro at the field said, "You don't land a Pitts. It will decide when it wants to land."

Curtis Pitts was the designer. Betty Skelton made the 'Little Stinker' famous in aerobatic contest circles. Pitts even built Goodyear/ Formula I raceplanes. I had a Little Stinker CL airplane as a kid. Build the RC version lightweight and it is a sweet airplane.

Anyone watch Barrett Jackson's auction from Scottsdale this past Sunday. They auctioned off a Pitts S1 with only 400 hours on it for $37,000. Groaned on that almost as much as I did most of the cars. Wish I could find my silver spoon !!!

Just went to the HP site and the price is tempting today...just $230. That is a lot of plane for that price. I have one BH plane, the 60size T-28 Trojan, and in fact just got home from flying it today. I don't know about other BH planes, but the T-28 is a real success story, a very good ARF that flies better than it looks, and it looks real good to start with. Hobby People is good to work with...I got a couple planes from them so far, including the T-28. They replaced a defective canopy immediately with great service. I like bipes and have a CG Ultimate and am assembling a AW Ultimate 50cc. The Pitts S1 is just not as graceful looking as the Ultimate or Python in my opinion, yet it has the kind of look that is classic and attractive like a Sharpe...so ungainly it's cute! (Please don't be offended.) The $230 price on the BH Pitts S1 is pretty awesome for that size of plane. My CG Ultimate is only 54". This Pitts is 59" and has to have a very thick fuselage, which I kinda love. BTW, my CG Ultimate has a OS 120 four stroke on it, and I think that would be too little engine for the BH Pitts. I would guess it needs the Saito 150 or 180 or the DLE 30 like suggested by someone. Hmmm, yes I need another bipe? Jon

Sorry bout that. He He.
