Hi all Evolution engine users.

I am fortunate to have been given the opportunity to test and demo the new Evolution 260cc radial engine on behalf of Horizon Hobby. I hope that you will follow with interest the process I am about to go through and that I will be able to share tips/techniques and learning with you as the "adventure" unfolds! My initial challenge is to have the engine fully installed, tested and ready to go for the 2011 Monster Planes Event in Florida in October.

Although I have a wealth of experience with glow and gas engines and have run other radials in the past(running and repair)this is my first experience of the Evolution 7 .

To date I have installed and bench-run the engine, it creates quite a stir each time we fire her up. The initial test data has been very positive.

Here is a video we did just showing the initial running of the engine. I,m pleased to say that the engine started on the second flick on the very first run and has maintained this characteristic.

Remember this is a review engine and the whole idea is to run it and learn its habits so that all future users can benefit from it

I just wish the 35 and 77cc radials were gas instead of glow.

I just wish the 35 and 77cc radials were gas instead of glow.

Don't let that deter you from buying one! I've got the 77cc version and it runs off of 100% methanol and then 1 quart of klotz techno-plate per 5 gallons of methanol. I can fly the plane 3 or 4 times for 9-10 minutes at a time, and it only goes through about 12oz of fuel, and I can use ONE paper-towel at the end of the day to clean the plane. They are very clean and efficient engines.

Steve, thanks for showcasing this for us. What provisions are there for the exhaust? Looks like it could be a challenge in cowls. The Moki collector ring works so nice for directing exhaust out the bottom.

Any idea on the $$$$ on this baby?

Thanks for your interest.
Yes there is a very nice collector ring but for the initial run we decided not too fit it for(We were too excited). I angled the exhaust stacks at the most convenient angle for bench testing.

The Evolution engines are the old Seidel's.. But the larger 260cc is dedicated as a gas engine, not a converted glow. HH website shows $3199 for pricing, which is a nice chunk cheaper than the moki 250

what a beautiful sounding engine!!! Looks as if there will be lots of radials at M/P this year...I'm bringing a Moki 400 in a 40% Waco.

Is that a tap for smoke I see? very cool, but the ring should come with the engine IMO.

Hello Steve, few questions, what is a diameter of propeller?

How strong is Evolution, how much HP?

Is that engine MVVS (Evolution for USA) or some other Evolution?

On which model will you put it for Monster Scale?

We will have these engines available world wide mid-November. These engines are Evolution engines made for us by UMSin India. The glow versions come with the wiring harness for all 7 or 9 cylinders, you need to provide your own starting battery or the onboard system of your choice if you wish to go that way. There will be collector rings available for all the engines at the same time the engines themselves are available. Collector for the 35cc will be priced at $130.00 and includes the new required header pipes and the ring. The collector ring for the 77cc will be $160.00, the 99cc $190 and the gas 7-260 is $220.00.

In preparation for purchase and installation, can I get the diameter of the big 7 cylinder gas radial...I'll have to figure out how much to enlarge my Stearman plans.

You will need 13 inches. It fits with ease in the LA7 cowl
