My workshop is in a loft at the top of the stairs of my house. It can get cramped, but it's nice to work in.

I use an "empty" room in the house. It's usually very busy looking so i don't like the thought of photographing it. My wife would use it as evidence at the trial anyway. But hopefully the judge will understand it's not my fault- it's an addiction

Here's mine. This is the attic area above my garage. It is Air conditioned, heated and I have a TV, stereo and refrigerator.

My primary building surface is a drafting table with a thick mirror and ceiling tiles to top it off. I have three other benches to keep projects out of the way that are in the works. I store most completed planes down stairs in the garage.

I know what you guys mean.
My LHS all 4 of them dont have much. I got tired of running around from place to place.
This is 20 years of collecting stuff and putting on a pegboard wall. Finally ran out of storing place, so I trippled my peg board storage by only losing 7" from my shop room. I built out 7" and built peg board cabinet doors. Storage up against the original wall, storage on the back side and the front side of the peg board cabinet doors. Look back at the picture closely, see the knob? They open up into the other two layers. And what shop is open at twelve midnight on a weekend. My buddies all the time come over to build, BS, or shop for something they need for their current project at 1 or 2 in the morning. The bins down below are basically the loose items on the wall.

Thanks,
Gunny

Anyway it's old, it's not very tidy but it's my office, and I spend far too much time down there...

here you can see my workshop
My workbench with my latest little toy on it
My Power tool bench with all the good stuff on it.
and my layout table with 20 years of model paint on it!

Balsa Master. 70% of this stuff is purchased at better deals. Hobby shops selling and getting out of business, flea markets (new in packages) at a bargain price and reading in newspapers of hobbyists getting out of the hobby. I "try" to buy only what I think i'll need in the future. But don't get me wrong. I still support my local hobby shop and Tower Hobbies too.

Thanks. Gunny

Default RE: Let's see your work shop!

I am in the planning stages of building a shop. I know bigger the better, but I am taking in part of my attic, 20' ceilings and virtually unlimited floor space. I am going to include the size in the heating and a/c contract. I am in the deep south and realize that it needs to be cooled and heated. My, our (My wife is watching) house is an old queen anne, with a large attic and tall ceilings. Enough of the rambling, how many square feet should I allow for an amble shop for large scale planes. My wife says I can't have it all (2900 sq ft). If any body has a good idea please send me details. We are in the remodeling stages now and would like to include in the remodel budget.
