hi guys/gals,
for those who don't know, i am the advisor to my school's RC club. i talked the principal into letting us use the foundation of a removed building to build a small track on. it's been a great learning experience teaching my students/club members about RC and how to build a track. take it from me, those guys who do this for a living are trully geniuses in their own right.
the kids love helping out and have a blast just watching the cars roost. eventually, we'll be putting up some dirt ramps. any suggestions on how to build one? we're trying, but the monsters keep killing them.
btw...i know it's shamless, but it's not for me. if there are any racers out there that has used beat up stuff that they would like to get rid of, but not worth enough to put on ebay, please donate them to us. we need all the support we can get. thanks in advanced and i'll keep you guys posted on what the final track will look like.
take care.

Manny,
After you get the track and jumps built, you need to compact the dirt or the trucks will tear it up fast
Maybe if your school has an Ag department they might have a water filled type roller, other wise you could rent a compactor for like $50 at the equipment rental places. The Rollers work ok, just a lot of labor.
Also you need to 1- water it down, 2-let soak in, 3-compact, 4-repeat step 1, etc and etc until it’s somewhat hard packed.
Good luck

we started the first year with about twelve kids with cars. last year we had about 50 with thirty cars. this year, it looks like we may have up to 50 cars. as for the membership, we can boast about 100 kids total. they love it and have a great time.
btw...you know the magazine Xtreme RC? well, they just emailed me to come pick up a bunch of cars that they used to demo for their articles. i thought a few cars would be there waiting for me, but i actually was given about twenty or so cars. most was in need of a few parts to get it track worthy and a few were decent enough to go now. you really got to hand it to those guys. they have a great magazine as well as a great heart. my students who so want one, but cash stops them from getting one will be in for a treat. i just have to decide how to give them away. mike and derek, thanks for your support. and thanks for all those who sent in stuff to help us off our feet. take care and i'll post some pics of our track from monday.

new update... we are nearing completion on this track. the ramp needs to be better shaped and compacted. we need more of a rythmn section and perhaps a few more pipes here and there. but yes, so very soon. the students are extremely excited and can't wait until the first race. thanks for those who donated stuff to our great cause. you'll be receiving thank you's very soon. check us out...
