Hobbico Nexstar Success!!!

I had about 3 months ago bought the Hobbico Nexstar RTF with the Computer Simulator. I flew on the sim for the 3 months. Well Finally I found the Nerve to take it out to the field. I Ignored the advice of everyone to get a trainer. Put it on the ground and started to taxi out to the runway. And then it died. I thought it might be gods way of telling NO!!! dont fly. But I am hard headed and thought well I wont know untill I do it. So I restarted it and Away I went. It took off like a dream. I flew for about 10 mins. I even got the nerve to do some rolls and a few loops. I was having fun. But now it was time for the hard part. LANDING!!!!! I got it lined up and landed just fine. One guy there had said he was impressed. Well After that I felt more Comfortable to do it again. I even tried Touch and go's and did them like I had been flying for a long time. Needless to say I have went 10 times since and each time the plane has came back in the same Condition as it left in. This Plane is great and I would recomend it to anyone who it getting into flying. It did things I would have never thought a trainer would do. I haven't tried the AFS system and most likely wont due to bad comments on it and I dont think I need it. I also dont recomend that anyone fly without a trainer either. I was a risky chance and I really thought it would come back crashed. Plus I have seen someone Crash a nexstar the first time he flew it just the other day.

Congrats!!! Same thing I had to say about the NexStar as well.... See my post here: [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/NexStar_fan_and_a_RCU_newbie%25/m_2717202/tm.htm]My 1st RCU post[/link]

I think AFS is ok as long as you understand it's good/bad points prior to your first launch. You will want to get an iron to keep your monocoat nice and tight without all the wrinkles... I've had to iron mine 3-4 time now in the 8-9 months.

Good luck and be careful...... The G2 NexStar edition helps, but actual stick time is the best training aid.... :)

Cheers,

VG

Somehow all I end up doing is just making the wrinkles a little tighter, they never seem to go away. haha I get the shakes when heating up the iron :)

A heat gun works best on wrinkles....

Congrats on teaching yourself to fly. I also taught myself to fly and I get great satisfaction knowing that I did it myself, as I'm sure you do too. Also I'll second what 2slow said.....the heat gun is your best friend when dealing with covering.

I have a friend who did this. Got about 10 hours of sim time. And then he was ready to go. I wish i could do that. I tell myself if i ever got in the air and something happened where my instructor couldnt land it, that i could land, just might not be on the runway.

bigd50032- nice!![8D] Welcome to the club. I did it just the same way that you did, and now I'm progressing at a pretty rapid rate. Recommend that you start putting lots of weather into your sim; wind, gusts, thermals- and practice landing in that mess. Fly the heck out of it. Then you won't be intimidated by a little wind at the field. Once you can do it consistantly, you'll be ready to start building another plane. Congrats!

Congrats! Your one of the small percentage of people who have started on your own and didn't bust nothing up!!!! I'll say the sim helped out immensely! I'll also bet that you may have had to change your underwear doing your first landing!!!!
Keep flying the Nexstar until you completely are bored with it. Then, pick up a Tiger 2 or 4 * 40/60 (low wing trainer) and fly it.
You shouldn't have any trouble. And keep your Nexstar for those lazy sunday afternoon flying sessions.

Dave...

Good Job!! I learned the same way a year ago on the nexstar system. Now I have 4 planes and 3 controllers. Where does it end?:D
