Just some great projects, men. I would love to see some plans, if you have them. I need to do this to as my beloved aircraft transporter (99 chevy tahoe) is going to be sold. Greedy oil producing people!?@ This will leave me with a micro car to sqeeze into and a trailer is the option. I am very impressed with the trailers. Any one else have photos?

The bottom box is 4'x8'x2'.....the lid is 4'x8'x6"..........there is no gate in the back. I wanted it to be waterproof and light a gate in the back would be hard to seal and add unessary weight even my 30% plane only weighs 17lbs...not a big deal to lift out.I have pulled it in the rain and it didn't leak a drop..I have also left it out in the sun 100deg and with the air intake, solar powered exhaust fan, and high gloss finish is was cooler inside that out and did not losten monocoat.

The plans for mine is the KISS method. I used 4 sheets of ply wood.............1 full sheet of 3/4 for the bottom..1 full sheet of 5/8 for the lid....1 5/8" sheet cut to 2 2'x8'.....and finally 1 5/8" sheet cut to 2 2'x4', 2 6"x8', and 2 6"x4' peaces. It was assembled with liquid nails, deck screws, and 2'x4' 's cut down to triangle stock. the lid is braced in the top and edges with 1"x2". the inner lip of the base is reinforced with 1"x2" 's. The lip around the outside to seal is shaped 1"x3" 's. there is an 8' piano hinge on the back side.
The tie down grid in the bottom is 1/2" pvc and 2"x2". The air intake scoop on the front was constructed of 1"x3" sides shaped and 1/4" ply.
Two most chalenging things was to get 3 peaces of triangle to meet properly in the corners, and making a lip in the back that sealed over the piano hinge and did not allow a space for leakage.

Wow! It doesn't look that big in the Photos! It must be an illusion from the small wheels and styling, I have a 4 x 8' trailer that LOOKS a lot larger but my wheels are mounted on the outside of the box and I have 1000 lb springs - I guess I'll have to revisit the idea.
BTW - the flow through idea for the air is fantastic - wouldn't have thought of it, but now I wouldn't build one without it!

The two trailers look awsome, I just happen to have a Harbor Freight Trailer like Bandjc's, I originally bought it to haul a dirt bike, now with some ideas, I can haul planes with it.

Build it and post some pics on this thread. With gas prices going up cars will get smaller, and as pilots skills improve their planes get larger and larger. I bet there is a lot of pilots that would love to have a trailer that they could pull with a commuter car, but thinks the car can not do it, or the trailor would be too expensive. In the past I would shove three kids, field equipment, and planes into my toyota corolla. And for the 30 minute ride to the field I had to repeat "Dont touch DaDa's airplane!" every 2 minutes. I have around $2500 inverted into a 28% Wild Hare Extra Special That has only been flown two times in the 9 months since its conception due to transportation issues. I love my little trailor I don't know how I survived without it.

Mine has 4x8 wood on the sides, 4x4 in front. The top was built on top of that.
I didn't have any plans, just started with an idea and winged it. All corners are gorilla
glued (lots of it). Then I sanded everything and rounded out the corners.
I can't remember what the primer coat was, but then I came back with 3 coats of 25 year latex extreme weather
on top of that. The stripes are just cheap walmart spraypaint.
I've had no water problems at all.
There are two doors on the back, and a third on top that flips up seperately to get to the wing area.(rubber bumpers catch the door when it's flipped up) All the top and sides are
lined in egg crate foam just in case a plane comes un-tied.
Here's some more pictures during painting, and after it was striped, but before all the foam was installed.

Nope, that's saw dust your seeing, not paint. We had plastic all around it while it was painted, it was painted with brushes.. The wife helped a lot on this project.
The doors are inset into the back. I keep a tarp over it when its home in the yard, but going down the road in the rain, it's no problem at all.
Thinking about some rubber covers over all the hing lines, but it's not really been a problem.

There are advantages of both. Bandjc had one vision and I had another. The short one will have less drag, and stay cooler and dryer. The tall one will have more room, easier access, and awsome looks. You might consider a battery and charge jacks. It is really convienant charging everything on the way to the field..

Taking all points into consideration, I may go with the low profile one, low drag, less cost to build, I don't need to carry 3-4 planes, I take a max of 2 at any giving time, more room in my S-10 Blazer

I have been researching those Solar Fans, they do look interesting if not a bit expensive...
However, my big question is; 'How do they stand up to travel?'
Anything that I have read about them shows them installed on a building or a boat. Buildings are only subject to wind and boats don't move fast. So, on the back of a trailer doing 60 mph how well does it stand up?

Which frame from Harbor did you use. They have a folding frame unit at the store next to me and that is about all they carry in 4x8.

It was foldable, but you have to assemble it when you get it, I didn't put any of the foldable things on
and bolted the frame solid.
Once the 3/4 ply is bolted down on top of the frame, it is very solid. But still light weight.
I wheel this around by hand from my back yard to the front to hook it to my vehicle to go to the field.
We looked at various options, including buying a small enclosed trailer, and this was the cheapest way to go
I've been very happy with it, it serves my needs perfect. There's room in it to haul a 4-wheeler or couple of dirt bikes
if you pull out the slide in shelf too.

I love it when a good plan comes together! I built my trailor to be able to haul my 28% Wild Hare Extra Special. I finished the plane 12-10-04 maiden 1-1-05 and did not fly it again until 7-6-05. I wanted to fly it but couldn't get it to the field. On 7-9-05 I completed flight number THIRTY.
