Hi everyone,
For those of you that don't go to the Jet forum, here's some interesting reading:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3241116/tm.htm
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3242962/tm.htm
The proposal will ban ALL types of model events, not just jets.

1. Someone will find a way to blame Dave Brown.
2. Most won't care anyway because they "Just Want To Fly(tm)," and they don't go to events at airports anyway.

Here is the generic version boys and it's no proposal. It's in effect today!!!!
Under existing FAA rules which were previously not enforced and will now be enforced, airports may not be closed for R/C events. For airports that are not closed yet used for R/C events NPR's are not acceptable alternatives during operations. The set-back line (250' or 275') for active runway is another problem.
Good news - Events held at airports with more than one active runway will not have to request airport closure. This is providing that only one runway is used and traffic does not interfere with operations.
The envelope got pushed, and this is the result. Now, we can ****, complain, scream, yell or, act appropriately and send your represenatives and senators along with our friends at the FAA well throughout letters about why you feel this is wrong. Be sure to give alternatives. They are not looking for negatives. Maybe in the future this will change.
For those who don't understand the need for all aspects of aviation to co-exhist, and how lucky we are to have had the opportunities we have had, the referable load of bricks has just landed on your head.

"Under existing FAA rules which were previously not enforced and will now be enforced,"
Please document A) instances where they were previously NOT enforced and
B) any hard evidence that there is some new level of enforcement in place.
"envelope got pushed, and this is the result. "
Explain that statement. Who exactly pushed the envelope? Prado? Ozarks? What?
"referable load of bricks has just landed on you"
Why is that?

Hey Easy, I wonder if this is one of those things Dave will tell us not to talk about next month?
I betcha he does, or I betcha he learned from the last time that is how the pot gets stirred.
Did you like the guy on the other thread that said I want my federal money back?
Guys, deep breaths..it will all be ok.

Geez, what a bunch of bull! They're not confiscating turbines! Where in the world did you hear that hogwash? Got any proof to back it up? First of all, they dont have any jursidiction to do so. The FAA is not a law enforcement organization, they are a regulatory agency. But, you have to realize, it was a turbine powered aircraft that started this whole mess to begin with, not Dave Brown! Granted, I am not a big DB fan, but he was not in control of a turbine powered R/C jet that almost hit a full scale aircraft at a recent event! I'm not saying that all the blame rests solely on the pilot, because you have a CD that lied about an altitude waiver, and a spotter that aparently had his H.U.A. while the pilot was flying, in poor visibility. I think you need to look at the bigger picture hear, and be thankful that a full scale aircraft was not hit and brought down, injuring or possibly killing the pilot. You dont even want to START to think about what would have happened it that were the case. Everyone needs to keep a cool head and stop listening to all the BS rumors that are starting to fly. I can tell you from experience, a cool head, diplomacy, and professionalism are three things that are absolutely needed when dealing with the FAA. We all start mouthing off, acting stupid, and acting like it's our god given right to fly anywhere we want, anytime we want, any WAY we want, and we will be regulated out of existence. This whole thing will work out if everyone keeps a professional attitude, sticks together, and works for the greater good of the hobby. One or two more incidents like the one that started all this, and it could be all over!

I can tell you from first hand experience that the feds are being A joles over models. Our club was kicked out of an airport that we have been flying at for 25 years. The airport manager fought for us right up to the point that the feds pulled hte purse strings and siad no more federal funding to the airport if we were allowed to stay. As persident of the club, I have been fighting it tooth and nail for coming up on a year now and to no avail. The fed that is being a D*^& head will not budge and from what I have been told he does not have to.
His Position on the matter is that we are not an aeronautical entity therefore we have no business at the airport. I have talked to Wes at AMA and he also backs it up; that there is NOTHING written that we cant be there, BUT there is also nothing written that we CAN be there. In the past the airport operator had a little say so as to what went on at the airport, but now if they are receiveing federal funding, it is all up to the local fed in charge as to what is allowed......

ET,
Where did you hear that the FEDS are confiscasting turbines, and what part of this is DB responsible for?
Just curious because you said it was DB's fault.

Dude, you have entirely too much time on your hands!! Now I know you're trolling trying to start crap because I've already read the thread you're talking about. And, for what it's worth, if Stitch told yo all this, he's full of Bovine by-product!
1. R/C aircraft have not been BANNED at airports.
2. Feds shooting down models? You need to take your meds because your seriously starting to lose your mind.
Ah, whats the use, just another troll under the bridge!!

Just a roomer I herd from a guy named Stitch. Never, EVER doubt Stitch! I read also that the feds will SHOOT DOWN your modl with GUNS if they catch you at an airport. They have BAND models from airports. And Bave Drown is sitting in his palase in Muncie counting our dogh while all this goes on.

Methinks you guys, LLf & 106, have YET to DECODE Curtis' (ET) brand of sarcasm and humor (?) ET is really very artistic with his choices of words and methods. In addition he very eloquently displays his rejection of all that is not initiated within his own small world of expertise. Still he does possess a large repertoire of witty words and sarcastic meaningless presentations.

Hmm, aparently I missed the humor. Sorry, but I find it very hard to find anything to joke about where this situation is concerned.
If that makes me a stick in the mud, so be it, I guess.
After re-reading the entire thread, I see what you are saying about the sarcasm. ET, I apologize. This whole thing has got me a bit on the pissed off side though, because most likely, we are all going to pay the price for the mistakes of less than half a dozen dumb s##ts that cant follow the rules. Of course, it's just like anything else in the world, I guess... the masses pay the price for the mistakes of the few. I'll try to be happier next time I post

But the thing is...the post is wrong. Dead wrong. On many levels. It's false information. Nor is it even ABOUT half a dozen dumb $##ts not following the rules and ruining it for everyone. It's just an irresponsible post, nothing but rumor and BS, and I would not get pissed off or even take it seriously at all. It's misinformation. It's false. It's bunk. And no, you can't blame it on some guys who didn't follow the rules.
I think it's a tempest in a teapot, and a bunch of guys like the OP spreading panicky rumors and misinformation. Don't be part of the chain that beleives it or passes it on...a whole LOT of what you read on the internet is just plain UNTRUE. And this is one of them.

HMMM.. I for one am posting FIRST HAND INFO on loosing our flying site at a federally funded airport. This is not a BS post, it is indeed happening. We have 3 FAA members in our club that are helping me fight this on the national level, but for now, we are out of a place to fly. This was not brought on by ANY incident, it was just the FAA schmuck seeing us fly out there and it pissed him off so he shut us down. The guy is a total ***** and presents himself as one, however, someone saw fit to put him incharge of the airports in our area so we get to deal with it.
My question to you it this. Do you have anything to add to the thread to help anyone out ? Do you have any first hand knowledge that ALL THIS IS BUNK and really is dead wrong or are you just showing your butt to the world on this issue ??? I for one would love to wake up tomorrow and find out that we were mistakenly kicked off the airport and that some guy that goes by the name easytiger saved the RC world and put the FAA in its place.

Yup, same incident, and I see it a bit differently. True, the majority of the blame lies with the CD...BUT... a pilot, whether full scale or R/C, is responsible for making sure that his flight is conducted safely, and according to the rules. If there is any question whatsoever as to those rules, it is a pilot's responsibility to clarify them before he takes to the air. The CD did not make him go up in marginal visibility conditions. There is responsibility to be placed on several parties, CD, pilot, and spotter included. Sorry, but the excuse of "well, I THOUGHT I was flying under a waiver" or "I THOUGHT I had plenty of seperation between me and that full scale" will not carry any weight with the FAA. A pilot is responsible for his aircraft, in the air and on the ground, period. The only exception to that as far as I'm concerned would be a mechanical failure. As far as the altitude waiver issue is concerned, it's really a mute point. Even if a waiver had been issued, that waiver does not restrict full scale aircraft from flying in the waivered airspace, within those altitudes. All the waiver does is allow an R/C aircraft to fly at a higher altitude, it DOES NOT remove the responsibility of the R/C pilot and his spotter to monitor for full scale traffic, and yield the right of way if need be. Someone wasnt doing their job that day, or there would have never been a near miss incident. That's all I will say on the matter, as I know it's a touchy subject, and there are a lot of rumors flying around. Suffice to say that A LOT of things should have been handled differently, on the part of SEVERAL people.
