Default Sig Kadet LT-40 Kit wing attachment

Has anybody modified a Sig Kadet LT-40 Kit to Have Bilt on instead of rubber band wings.

I am bringing my 3 Kids 7, 5 and 5. Into the wonderful world of RC this winter. Instead of just buying them a plane I decided to get a kit and have them help me build it so they will appriciate it more. I havent kit built in about 10 years I have beem ARFing it.

Can't be much extra work to modify it to bolt down wing.

Build some hardwood blocks into the leading edge of the wing center, drill and glue two dowels.
Make holes for these dowels on the fuselage wall in the front of the wing sadle.
Then glue a plate in the back of the fuselage opening with two blind nuts, drill hole in back of wing for bolts to go through and into the blind nuts.

I use bolt on wings with LT-40 and it has done great. Several minor crashes but no wing damage.

I have an older LT40 ARF from back in the 90's

About 4 yrs ago I decided to make it a Tail dragger with bolt on wings

I removed the covering under the wing for the part that fits over the fuselage.

I made a plywood wedge for the front half of the wing with two 1/4" dowels protruding.

In the front bulkhead, F-2 I drilled to matching 1/4" holes for the two dowels

At the rear, I covered the bottom of the wing with a piece of 1/8" ply with hardwood shims to allow for the dihedral

There's already a plate in the rear that I added 1/4" ply under

I drilled down through the plywood doubler on top of the wing clearance holes for 1/4" wing bolts

The plywood in the fuselage was tapped 1/4-20 for the nylon wing bolts. I put thin CA in the hole and when dry re-tapped the hole

While I was at it I used the rear reinforcement to raise the trailing edge of the wing 1/4" to subdue the tendency of the plane to climb with increased power

There is enough strength in the F2 to use dowels without problems.

The stock wing has a lot of dihedral and there's a lot of down thrust built in for the engine.

If building a kit, I would take out most of the dihedral and all of the down thrust if I was an experienced flyer.

Fuselage has 6 degrees positive incidence in the wing mount. This presents a problem when using a engine more powerful than a LA40.

Most people shim up the rear of the wing. I used a Popsicle stick at first and eventually shimmed the rear up 1/4" and that was about right.
