If you need other help, let me know. I've hosted 4 of them so far and here in Michigan, if you set up buoys for a course I have to get a Regatta permit. I cover my tail by getting the permit as it doesn't cost me anything but a drive to the DNR office and I also talk to the Parks and Recreation Dept. to get their blessing just in case we have a visit from "The Man".

When you get plans finalized, let me know and I can pin the event at the top of the General forum for a couple of weeks. You can also post it in the Events area. You can get there by clicking on the "RC Community" and following the drop-down menu.

Like I said earlier, once you get a place and date, let me know. For ours, I also put fliers up in the local hobby shops to help draw in others in the area.
The park where we hold ours at encouraged us to run there as they want to see the park being used again by families as for a while it got run down and was used for more illicit things if you know what I mean. The city put almost $1,000,000.00 into fixing it up again with biking and hiking trails but I haven't seen the handicapped accessible fishing docks yet which I translate into drivers stands.
Let everyone know that thye wil be running their boats at their own risk and that by attending they are aware of this. Nobody likes lawsuits! Use guidelines that the sanctioning bodies use for the safety of all.
We're lucky as we have pretty much the whole lake to ourselves as the boat ramp is really bad. Yes, it's a lake, not a pond.

RE: NEED YOUR INFO SETTING UP FUN RUN
run at your own risk, well that is a practice my friends and i use , we had a small colision last summer not too bad but one guys hull got chewed by a rudder and prop but hey that is our own risk running multipul boats , question is do i need to translate this by mouth or have a wiever to sign ??(run at your risk)

A waiver will give you black and white evidence that the person did understand this if you feel that you might need it. I run with a good bunch of people and so far the only problem that we had was someone getting some nitro in his eyes. Fortunately another person had a bottle of fresh water to rinse them out.

RE: NEED YOUR INFO SETTING UP FUN RUN
If your looking at posting flyers at local hobby stores (like Ron had mentioned he had done) you will be opening the door to anyone and everyone. No gurantee that everyones going to have the same level of skill, care, consideration, or experience and that can certainly make for trouble (like someone turning on a radio without checking frequency). You can take all kinds of measures to reduce the chance of problems but you cannot anticipate everything (hence the name accidents). A signed waver will certainly be a little peace of mind but by the same token should never be considered a get out of jail free card. Ultimately everyone will be held accountable for their actions and decisions.
As a rule I try to run my boats when the pond is clear and also run DSM frequency to avoid frequency conflict.
We can also consider it as a chance to pass on some knowledge and experience in safe boating !!
Looking forward to hearing more about it. Should be a fun run !!

RE: NEED YOUR INFO SETTING UP FUN RUN
matt, you really made a good point i think with our resources( RCU and fellow friends). we can make this a good turn out i dont want to trade good people for a large number of unknow people , like matt ii have expensive boats too and dont want any issues as well. and if we can have a small meeting before we run to explain how we are going to run so this doesnt turn into a circus we can all agree that we are responcible for our own actions , and in turn i think we will have a great day ..

If you want frequency clips, I picked up some clothes pins at Dollar General for I think a dollar and marked them but usually check with everyone before turning on your TX if you have a small crowd.
We try to avoid having big gassers running with small nitro boats unless they're cool about it.
Yes, the idea of a Fun Run is to keep it fun. Just as long as everyone uses common sense you really don't have anything to worry about.

Problem is that I find "common sense" to be surprisingly hard to come by these days.
Not so much referring to people in the hobby as I am daily encounters. Are you going to make the haul down to NJ Ron ?
I heard a rumor that Raj (XXXBoatworks) may be in town for the run too.

One way of avoiding problems is to have transmitter impound table. We do this in the plane club fun-flies. It's the best way to stop models from crashing !
