Looks good. I hope the hobby people deal helped you figure out what you needed. If not, at least I tried. Let us know how it works out. Tim

Default RE: My New Project!

if at all possible, i would go with the Feigao 1208430S 12x22 motor and the Castle Creations Thunderbird-9 ESC. the 12x22mm feigao will put out 90+ grams of thrust at 3 amps with a GWS 3x2 prop with no gearbox. the motor and esc weigh in at less than 20 grams. if you're gonna stick with NiMH batteries, i would get one with a larger mAh rating to handle the motor better. if you're going with lipo's, the AtomicWorkshop Cyclone 300mah 2 cell lipo pack would have gobs and gobs of power (the 2 cell 300mah pack weighs around 18 grams, the NiMH's you listed weigh up to 60+ grams). are you going with a gearbox for the motor?

i've never seen the TX so i dont know much about it, but the HS-55's have been used quite a lot and i've heard they work well enough. if you want a super cheap deal on some super cheap servos, check this out: http://www.bidproduct.com/part/Produ...SERVOS_10.html 4.5-5 grams per servo, 4 dollars a pop, hard to beat that price.

i recently spent a couple days sifting through all the products out there, and got some help over on RCG for the proper equipment. it took a while to figure it all out, but i finally got it all sorted. it can be a real pain in the butt sometimes trying to get the right stuff!

Progress update: I have given the list to my parents this is just my plane side of my wish list and know for a fact i am getting all of it. I could go in to detail but dont want to. Any suggestions?

I had an idea I am going to have one sheet of wood like the 1st pic. Then i am going to have wood stubs (Second Pic). To hold the battery, esc, reciaver, and i will have a place where my servos can stick out! This will also add strength...To finish it off i will add the first piece agian. Is it good?

I will keep updates.

At my local hobby shop a sheet 3" wide and a couple of feet long
is about 2 or 3 bucks each depending on thickness & strength.
I sometimes buy a cheap kit for about $10 to $15 just to use the
precut balsa stringers and tissue and then buy the sheets seperately.
On smaller planes one sheet can go pretty far.

I dont really know what design you're going to build. It would be nice if you drew up some plans of what you're thinking of now.

Let's back up a bit. Is this your first build? Or even so your
first micro build? Building a micro s&t RC plane is at the advanced
level. A very hard project to start with. Not to discourage you but
not to have you discouraged later far into the project.

If this is a first I would start out with some already tried & true
plans. This will give you all the dimensions, balsa width, RX location
and the center of gravity, ect.
Even a small free flight kit would be good for starters. What do you
want the plane to do? Slow flight, stunts....?
What size of micro? What's the weight of the total electrical works
and the total weight of the plane? That will determine your wing size.
You start with the electronics and build the plane around that and to
suit how you wish the plane to fly.

Yes it is my first build...

I am mainly waiting for the ele's like you said and building around it as i have not gotten them yet (christmas). Im thinkin i might build it bigger than 20inch wing spand more like 30. Also it will be a fun park flyer, will be able to fly slow but will be fast. I think if i build it my self that is part of rc is trying new things. Also tuning your planes to make them fly well...Thanks for your suggestions

With a wingspan of 30" a 3" chord will give you 90 inches of wingarea.
That's a good size park flyer that could easily handle 40 to 70 grams
of weight. If the motors are under powered and the plane too light
you will have little control especially in windy conditions.

That 12x30mm brushless might be too small. Did you order the gearbox
for it also?

Too bad they don't list the weight of the motor, RX, or servos. This would
give you a better idea of where to start.

Default RE: My New Project!

looks like your electronics weight should come up to around 130 grams, give or take a handfull here and there. your motor, with the geardrive and prop will give you around 200 grams of thrust at just under 3 amps. so, just to cover the weight of the electronics, you would need a wingspan of 32 inches with a chord of 4 inches. there will also be the weight of the empty plane, connectors, rod, ect, so maybe an AUW of around 200 grams (very rough guestimate, could be more, could be less), and that would need at least 50 inches with a 4 inch chord. that size of wing would still make for a relatively quick plane (5oz/sq ft wing loading = quick!).

as neurotex mentioned, finding a tried and true model or kit, or even a free flight plane for a conversion would be a good way to start.

if you wanted to shave some weight so you could go for a smaller size, i would opt for a good lithium 2 or 3 cell pack. a high capacity 300mah 2 cell pack will save you about 40 grams and give you a longer flight time as well.

just some food for thought, hope it helps

Well what does "chord" mean? IS it the depth of the wing?

So what do you think is a good size wingspand?
