My buddy went to target to buy his first Aero Ace biplane and he said he found a different plane that I didn't have. I asked if it was a mid-winged plane, conventional style and he said yes. I went to my local Target and there it was. The Aero Ace (Silverlit) Sport Flier! He got channel B which is green, he said it was the only one. I also picked up a green channel B as it was the only one they had at the location near me. I didn't get to fly it yet as I need to hide Air Hog purchases from my Wife now( I purchased 6 in the past month
) I'll see if I can post pics of the box and plane if I have time today at work. JOY!

See if it has the jet motors or the bipe motors. Also what color
is the RX plastic mount on the bottom. Is it black or gray?

I haven't even taken mine out of the box yet, but I'll check the motors and the plastic color this evening.
A buddy of mine bought one last night and we flew it.
*Edit
Ok, I finally got a chance to play with it and it does indeed have the Jet motors and black RX housing.

You can kinda get an idea of it's size next to the other AA's

Brrrrrrrr, it's cold out there! Just got done flying it. I taped a dime to the left side of the fuselage about .5 inch ahead of the wing and it flew beautifully! Out of the box it wanted to stall/dive a bit and this solved the problem and allowed me to get more speed. I may move it back just a bit to get a better glide out of it when the batteries run out though.
-Aero Ace Single Wing (1) Smooth Flier, Long battery life, pretty decent speed, Conventional Design
-Aero Ace Biplane (2) Good flier, makes quick turns, good for "Dogfighting"
-Aero Ace Jet (1) Good slow speed manuverability, Fast in turns, Can do loops!
-Aero Ace Acro Jet (1) Fastest of the Aero Aces by far, Need to mod it too much to make it fun but it's fast and stable now.
-Air Hogs Havoc Heli (2) Good indoor flier only, charges faster than the planes, Uber fun once you get a hang of them!
Ok, time to hide it. Wife should be home shortly.

All the AA's are the same price at Target. I hope they make the blue one in a different channel. From what I've seen here is that all the Acro Jets are on channel A. The Sport Flier is on B. The AA and AA Jets can be found on multiple channels.

I just found 1 Sport Flyer at a local target here in Austin, Texas.
However, when I went to purchase it did not show in their inventory list and when a manager checked it had been 'recalled'. He could not explain more and could not sell it.
Love by bi-plane. Lost my AA Jet in tall tree on a windy day. These things are fun.

h8, Thats an ugly signature. I'll give you an option anyway. Try securing the wing to the body. This will reduce wing float which robs performance. Sorry, you have to look for the answer. look in the aa mods thread. Tim

Soooo...
I go to Target with my wife who is returning a shirt. I quickly wonder over to the toy isle with my 4 and 6 year old boys. I see the new Sport Flyer. I want it! But I allready have 4 AA's and really find it hard to justify buying a 5th (especially since my wife is present). My kids are begging me to buy it! I start walking away and my 6 year old says "Come on dad! It's only 4.96..." WHAT? I run back and look. Sure enough, red tagged to 4.96 with an AS IS sticker attached to it. This must have to do with the recall mentioned in the above post. So for 4.96 I cant go wrong, even if it's just for parts. I buy them both, bring them home, they fly like a dream. It's the first AA Ive bought that didnt dolphin out of the box and needed a washer taped to the front. They do well in a slight breeze, as responsive as the jet, don't gain altitude as fast as the jet or bipe though.
Im very happy with my 2 new planes

Wow!
I bought one of these last year. After reading about the AA on here I went hunting for them everywhere, but only found the silverlit twin pack of the red turbo plane and the sportflier for $69.95 AUS. That is pretty strange as in australia we seem to get stuff ages after it is launched in the US. Mines red. When I finally found the AA for sale I was disappointed as the sportflier does fly better. Maybe its the longer fuse section, but it doesn't seem so choppy.

Out of the box, it'll fly in about the same area as a bipe. I added a smidge of weight to the nose to get faster/more level flight and it now requires just a bit more space.
I can still fly in front of the house no problem and I live in a townhome complex with a bunch of trees.

your last plane must not have been any of the recent ones... as long as you get either a bipe, jet acrojet or one of these you will not be disappointed any of the airhogs with Nimh s however are almost always awful.

Well I finally got one of the aero ace "sport flyer"s yesterday. WOW! I love this little thing! It is much better suited for outdoor or large gym flying in my opinion. It is faster and turns wider than the bip. More like the jet, but mine doesn't porpose like the jet tends to. Perfect right out of the box. It doesn't self right much, but flys more like a hobby grade low-wing. Nice and smoooooth. I haven't tried the acro jet yet, but out of the 5 AA jets and bips I now own, this is my favorite. I just wish they had it in other channels too. I wonder if Air Hogs is marketing each new release in one channel only purposely? I might have to get another and do the channel change mod. The bips are by far the best indoor and dogfight planes, but I couldn't be happier with the "sport flyer".

I recently added one of these Aero Ace monoplanes to my "fleet" of Aero Aces. I thought that Silverlit had done something really right in making the entire airframe from EPP, and that it should be quite rugged. My favorite Aero Aces are the bipes with lower wing removed and fuselage thinned, motor housings removed, up thrust angle reduced, and props ballanced. I have several, including my very first one that I bought over a year ago - and it is still going strong. My evaluation of the monoplane is in comparison to my experiences with these modified bipes.
All in all, I am rather unimpressed with the Sport Flyer.
As an "eyeball aerodynamicist", it just dosen't look right to me. The wing has an extreme degree of undercamber. The horizontal has about 10 degrees up. The motors have an absurd looking amount of up thrust. It is very short coupled. Checking the ballance, the CG seemed to be much too far forward.
Take a GOOD look at the last picture of post #4 of this thread and you will see what I mean regarding the undercamber, horizontal incidence and thrust angle. It isn't easy to make any changes to these with EPP either.
But the real test is, how does it fly? Mine seemed rather sluggish compared to my bipes with the lower wing removed. In turns, it was slow to return to level flight, and often required opposite turn control to accomplish this. If the turn steepened, it would often not return to level flight at all - just continue the turn to the ground. It was fairly fast, but did not climb well. Directional stability was poor and it required frequent inputs to keep it going straight. Power off glide was at about a downward 30% angle.
I am sure that with some mods, it could be a better plane. I started by adding a little washout to the wing tips by bending and using a heat gun. This seemed to help the turn stability some. Next, I added some weight (in the form of a thumbtack) to the REAR of the fuselage. This gave a much better glide, a bit better climb, and more responsive turns.
Unfortunately, this is as far as I got. My particular airplane had a radio problem with a maximum range of about 100 feet (I should have quit when I noticed it, but of course I didn't). I had a flyaway (lost it to a backyard ajoining our little park) but was able to recover it. When my local Target gets some more in I will exchange it for a new one (stupid me again, I tossed the box and receipt) and will try some further development. If I had lost it for good, I would not buy another one. I have been very pleased with my modified bipes, and I don't think that the Sport Flyer will ever come close to performing as well regardless of modifications.
Just my two cents,
Arlen

Yeah, mine had a bad receiver.
My point is that I don't think the overall design of the Sport Flyer is (or can ever be made to be) on par with a mildly modified Bipe...
Arlen
(Always the optimist, I am eagerly awaiting the NEXT Silverlit product though!)

more like it. How could you gain any lift at all? I usually set my pushers
at about 2 degrees up thrust- not 15 degrees down.
The wing undercamber doesn't bother me... and by the looks of the wing's
angle this plane should climb like mad.
Fix the motor's thrust angle and find the proper CG and I bet it would.
