New Project, brushless jet boat
Yay the boat and drive is here, thanks to the help of odessit. So to give the run down.
KMB 28mm jet drive, 28" billings jet boat.
Drive train
Intending to use a feigao 12L brushless motor. Using somewhere between 6-12 cells.
Thats about it for now, but there may be some surprises in the works.

My first obstacle is how to armor the hull, I'm going with aluminum again probably, but thinner. and hopefully much neater. I dont want to paint the hull, so I've got to plan this out. If you can think of any easy way to attach metal to ABS without the risk of either losing it or making an ugly hull. I'm wondering rivets?

ohh, I like how you think, flexible, lighter and stronger. Attaching a composite to plastic much easier. Which is less expensive and easier to get, I'm thinking carbon fiber, very very good idea. bet no one has put it on the outside before.

well, I found a place that sells carbon fiber sheets, I can get a 11"x16" piece of CF of 24$, in either the classic style or some new aluminum carbon hybrid material. I like that silver hybrid stuff. good old hexanium lol, thats what its called.

on the villain hull is there any stuff inside it when you buy it? I mean like is it flat on the bottom and cleared out like a bby hull when you get it or does it have plastic stuff all over to hold moter mounts and all that stuff. thanks mike

thanks for the support guys, should be fun and there will be vids.
to answer the villain hull question, I highly modified that hull, copy and paste the address in my signature, thats the build thread.

small problem read up some more on the carbon fiber, there's a world wide shortage. Not so sure this is the best time to be purchasing the stuff. I'm taking other suggestions for armor. unless someone knows where to get some decently thick and decently priced CF.
edit: scratch that, I'm going with carbon fiber tape, easy to get, real, and cheap, not to mention tower hobbies has it, yay

I have a question about the jets you like so much. I have a 33in flat bottom river boat made of fiberglass it is real old! put it this way it was old what I found it in a yard sale15 years ago. long story short I have painted it n was going about finding a jet for it then I hear the it won't every really be fast cuz jet boat RCs aren't very fast now I don't know if I want to finish it since the performance may not be worth the cost

If you want it to go fast then go for surface drive. But the feeling of a jetboat is incredible and they can go pretty fast to. search for qicksilvers vids on youtube and see for your self.
here is mine
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knA_3rLK9fE
Its only 18" and is powered by a graupner 19mm jet and a feigao 380 9s on 6 cells
I think the speed is decent. Could have been faster but I'm happy with how it turned out.
If you want speed out of a jetdrive, brushless is a must i think. And keeping the weight down.
jet have a "speedlimit". when you have reached the rpm were the jet is the most efficient it will not go fatser if you add more cells.
So a bit bigger motor with more torque and a few less cells will probably give you more fun than a high kv motor.
(I think someone off you english speaking folks could explain it better than me, i'm just a poor stupid swede so I'm a bit handicaped with the language)

you did admirably . I would add, it's a weight to horsepower type of situation. You want the most power from the least amount of weight, with a jet. I think you should go weigh that old fiberglass boat, then wed have a better idea.

who cares. lets get like 40 cells and a Lehner 22/40/*6 and hook it up and see how it goes. I'm sure it will push to much water you will be flooding the land

RE: New Project, brushless jet boat
ok, I got something done today. After purchasing some brass, I spent a great portion of the day, cutting, bending and soldering an intake grate for the boat. Being this was something I never quite got with the first boat, I figured it should be the first thing I finish on this one. I pretty much traced out the intake on the brass cut slits every cm across. Then bent up the sides to form a set of guide vanes. This did three things, guides water straight into the drive(no turbulence), helps the boat track straight and protects the intake from large rocks. I then doubled the thickness of the base and vanes.
It might not be easy to see the intake, sorry it's a bit too shiny to try to photograph at night indoors. I was almost going to paint it just so you could see it. Mind you I'm not done with the intake but, its roughed out pretty good and I've got some extra metal to work with.
