Default Tiger 1 is done(more PICS by request)

Here is my Tiger it is about 99% done, I have a few detail pieces to still add, and realized I'd left off the zimm for the lower front hull so that will get done. I wanted the tank to have the very well used and dirty look, and I may have gone over board but oh well. This would be my very first attempt to weather any vehicle much less build an AFV model. I'd been around some tanks off and on over the years and after seeing them in use they were always filthy, nasty and just plan grimmey (?sp?) so that was the look I went for.

I used all Tamiya paints using a Paasche VL airbrush on a #1 tip. Rustall was used on the exhaust as well. I'd like to thank all htose that gave tips and tricks and everyone for posting your builds as it gave me inspiration and imagination to see this through. It is somewhat based on a later war tank photo I found in the Belgium and Holland regions when Germany was putting various parts togather to keep tanks on the road, which is why it still has the older hatch. I may change the road wheels out to match the photo but am not sure yet. She will get an M4A3E8 to play with soon, as that is my next build. It will be complete with hedge cutters I hope. Anyone build any yet??

Thanks again.

Nice looking Tiger. On the easy eight Sherman though, you won't find any E-8s with the Cullin Hedgerow cutter. They were custom made for each tank for the sole mission of breaking through the French fields surrounded by hedgerows in the Normany and West France region. . The M-4A3E8 came in later after we were far beyond that erea. Many Early M-4A1 and A3's and m-5A1 Sruarts had them installed, some carrying through the war but most dropping them later.

Thanks for the tip PC, like I say I need to do my research. I did about 6 mo on this one, mainly just to find out about the Tiger and get an idea of what they looked like in the field. I found Jean Restayn's books to be very helpful, while not a technical manual of the tiger they are loaded with pics.

That is a great effort on your Tiger I. Excellent Zimmerit too and the tank commander's paint job is primo.

If you ask me, it looks, judging by the photos, like there's not nearly enough weathering. I'd put more dust and grime on the running gear or just drive it in the dirt a lot. I like the dented and pierced exhaust covers. Not overdone and yet looks just like sheet steel.

How's about some more pics?

That is a great looking Tiger. The cammo pattern is excellent. Gives me ideas for a KT I hope to get soon. Thanks for sharing.

Your first time effort is pretty impressive, great job. I agree, I think it needs to look even more dirty and used up. If you feel like working on it more, I suggest you maybe chip off some zimmerit and simulate rust in that areas. I have a 2 part rust finish I got at Michael's craft store. You paint on a iron oxide layer, then coat is with a rusting solution, it creates real rust on any surface. Check out a crafts store and you'll see what I'm talking about, it's worth the $10. You can also heat up a blunt metal object and melt a shell richochet into the hull and/or turret. A smaller hot object could mimic small arms fire damage.
