I joined AMA today, but it was after I came HERE to the AMA Forum
and read some of the B…S…!
An old flyer, Eddie RickenBacker once said:
Courage is doing what you’re afraid to do.
There can be no courage unless you’re scared.
And a German philosopher, Arthur Schopenhauer 1788-1860 said:
We forfeit three-fourths of ourselves, to be like other people.
I managed people for over 30 years, whether it was 5 or 30 people, it was scary, and, I was a member of countless clubs, organizations, whatever; it was just (large and small) groups of people with common interest. I found the following everywhere I went.
In any group of people with common interest, 20% did 80% of the work! (1 out of 5), (2 out of 10), you get the drift. These 20% people were special in my eyes, hardly had to tell them anything, they just did it, no questions asked. Then the next group, 50%, I found required help, a pat on the back, some instruction, follow up, recheck, just let them know I was there to support, and help them. The final group, the last 30%, these were almost impossible, and they required 80% of my time, and it was my really big job, it was a dogfight, knock down drag out, constant instruction, constant supervision, they had to be told to do everything, it was endless, and many were really nice people, they just needed enormous amounts of my time and help.
We vote for a new US president every four years. Did you know that since 1960 only about 48.62% eligible, on average, show up to vote, which means 51.38% are just sitting around just watching or too involved in there little worlds to care.
Remember 20% do 80% of the work, that is human nature, the way it is, and the way it will always be, and likewise it follows, in electing our presidents, 51.38% do nothing when it’s time to vote in the most important election we have. If they stepped up to the plate, we could see some real change…right?
So, can this be any different with all the crap I read some of you write about AMA. I am a volunteer fireman & first responder, and even though I show up for almost everything, others don’t, and that my friends it’s just human nature and you can’t change it, but you have to understand it.
So....I ask you, which group are you in?
I like to fly my planes and heli’s, and my firefighter buddies like it too, many have joined me, but many don’t, they don’t show up for medical calls, nor accidents either, but we all like a good fire, which is ashame, and we have fun putting them out, and flying, to relieve the pressures.
I was an AMA member in the late 80’s, but raising a family soon was my priority, so I let it all go. Now I have the time and still can fly planes and learning heli’s, but it takes a lot of time and money now…. I do love it so…and I will support the AMA, if just by sending them the $58.00 dues, plus a $25.00 donation.
I will never respond to negatives from this post, but welcome anybody to respond. I will get my number soon, and I will find a local flying club and support it no matter what. We are all here for really, a very short time…. might as well just, “get ur done” Some people make things happen, some watch, and the rest say "What happen?"
I will close with this: Love your enemies just in case your friends turm out to be a bunch of bas.....
You all fly high, be safe, Bud

Hello Bud.
Welcome to the AMA. It has some problems, but it is still a darn good organization, and we modelers would be lost without it. I have been a member now for 66 consecutive years, first joining in 1941, so you know I have been there and done that. There is no better hobby to be involved in.

Welcome! Yes, attempt to get your old number back, if that's important to you and you want it. America and the AMA need free thinkers like you, people who will take the reigns and "Get 'r done", as they say!
On this forum topic, you will have to get used to being called an "AMA Drone" by those people who can't seem to make a point without lowering themselves to name calling!
It's unimaginable to me, that in this great country, people of like interest with differing opinions on such small items as Model Airplanes and the AMA can get so hostile towards each other.

No matter what huh ? Sounds like the blind leading the blind to me. This is Abso*****lutely what america DOES NOT NEED. What we need is people thinking for themselves.

Happy flying, my friend, and maybe someday we can all fly togeher and callit our best day of our lives.
Til then, keep the wheels down and the prop spinning.

Hey SSRCCPREZ,
Nice to meet you “Bro”, and thanks for the “Welcome”. 10-26, 10-08, feels like home already.
I pay $19.28 a gallon to fly my plane, and did not mind that, $3.11 a gallon to drive there to get it, and I am happy, because “I can just do that”…because, freedom is not free!!!! Heard the other day on the news, CNN, a gallon of gas in Venezuela is 0.19, (that’s 19 cents per gallon); I wonder if that stuff has alcohol and nitro in it, maybe it would work in both my plane and truck? (that was a joke everybody..okay?)
One of my younger FF’ing brothers, just 19, gave me a mug last Christmas, printed on the inside; it reads, “First in, last out Firefighter”. On some days these old bones feel like, “Last in, First out”, and that’s a big joke on me from all of them, but I still pulled the hose, cleaned the trucks, all of us together, shoulder to shoulder doing all that inglorious stuff too, besides I like that adrenalin rush going to a fire, and flying this old plane of mine gives it to me, too... just being a small part, is the joy.
In management it was always like that too, staying later, last one to leave, turn the lights out, drag my butt home, do it all over again, it was lonely and scary, and funny I was an easy target for jokes, and always in the middle of some mess, like, story of my life. But, what the hell, dirty jobs, somebody has to do that, and it’s no big deal, really.
Gzzzzzz….looks like I’ll be responding to, “I joined the AMA today!” all day long, and then some, oh well…. another fire…….hehe
BTW: Tell me what you haven’t forgotten, do I assume 911? ASSUME things, caution somebody said, because when you assume, you could make an “ASS out of U and ME!"
Later dude, fly high, be safe…bud

Hey Jim,
You had been an AMA member longer than I have been alive!! That is just wonderful! Just love to see some of your old TX’s and planes. I started out on control-line, it was a STUNT MASTER, .049 Thimble Drone, wow that just brought back a few memories, and why don’t I have pictures of that, had a super 8mm back then too.
Flying airplane models is a lonely hobby/sport, and so is golf, and trout fishing, my other pastimes up here in the mountains, it’s just you and the plane, you and the ball, and you and that fish…nobody, but you!!!
The AMA problems I read about are just people problems, like everything else in the world, if we all thought the same, it would be a pretty boring place, but it’s still you and the plane, bottomline.
I commend you Jim, 66 years of flying, in the AMA and you are on a PC, just still doing it, staying involved…You have a great day, and I do hope you are still flying. BTW: I was born in Miami, and was always thrilled by the Goodyear blimps on Watson Island, and flying to Paradise Island on Chauks. Sebring was a favorite place, the 24 hour races.
Fly high Jim, stay safe, later bud

Your assumption is correct, I have not forgotten what I felt and what we lost on september 11, 2001. We all swore we would never forget, but sadly most have! I have not forgotten. Everytime I suit up to go to whatever emergency I do it in honor of the 343 that did it first for everyone else ,everyday, without any glory, just the satisfaction of getting the job done. The 48 hours after the 11th, was unforgettabe for me. iw as in a bunker in central Mass. in full gear. Waiting, watching, listening.....I must have checked every piece of equipment 10000 times. every time my "bunker" phone rang I leaped....I never slept. I had the arduaous job of forcing my guys NOT to head for N.Y.. I wanted to go also, but we had our orders.
I haven't forgotten, too many people already have, but I made a promise and I intend to keep that promise in action, heart, and spirit.

PilotFighter and ModeOne,
Thanks for both your responses and info. I did place a remark on my application, about being with the AMA 17 years ago, or so, and if they find the number it would be cool, if not….no biggie with me.
What matters is, I know I was flying R/C then, and still have the same old PICA….started flying it upside down because it got really boring, and then it became more challenging to me… was sort of 3D back when, and I never crashed it!!!!!
AMA Drone….hmmmmm are you saying other AMA members are name calling their brother AMA members, or are these non-AMA members, who are protesting and just doing their thing? Whatever…. When the eagles are silent, the parrots begin to jabber.
You all have a fine day…and I am sure we will talk from time to time about something special…..fly high, be safe.. bud

If you two are through patting each other on the back...
Budpro, that's a pretty aggressive stance. I'm glad you are happy about joining the AMA, but if we disagree on a policy point, it doesn't mean I'm a lazy good 'fer nuthin punk. Quite frankly, your post was nauseating. This forum is already plagued with intolerant people.

Hey Pt,
When I answer a post, I first go to your models and gallery, see what you
got, you don't got any!!! You been here since 4/28/03, over 4207
post in almost 1500 days, that’s 2.8 per day average. You come here a lot.
I’ve been here for 64 days, 33 post! It’s not a whole lot, or any real big deal, but I do have a few models and some showing in my gallery …..just tell me…… if you don’t mind….. why you can’t show yours?
I visited your website, you sell stuff……some good stuff. I like those books on page one, R/C Airplane Building Tech. / Flying Models…. you market and advertise on RCU, and with what you said in your reply post to me, I guess that’s one good method to get me to buy those books from you, maybe join the portal environment there… your website user policy says you can’t defame, abuse, harass, stalk, threaten or otherwise violate the legal rights (such as rights of privacy and publicity) of others…..let me think about buying and joining for awhile, Okay Pt?
I decided to join the AMA again, came to this forum to find out what’s up, obtain information on how to join. I found some really rude people, some violating the rules; was wondering why they do that, and how they get away with it? We now live in a word of s…, most people are Frustrated, Mad, Lonely, No life, Want everything yesterday, and like you stated, people just being intolerant to everything, and everybody. I started to just go back to the heli forum, but I want to fly legal at a club, so I needed that number again, …so I joined back up.
Man… shooting from the hip, I like that, Pt! I didn’t come to this forum to get involved in any of the AMA BS… I saw, but if I do come back, and we ever disagree on an AMA policy point, I would be happy to argue my point as clear to you, and understandable as I can. I promise I will treat you with all the respect you deserve, Okay?
I never heard of you before in my life until you replied, so I don’t know about you being a lazy good 'fer nuthin punk like you stated, no one told me about you, are what you do. I just decided to be truthful and lay some thoughts out there on the forum table, expose myself to the entire RCU world to see…
It’s Okay with me, if you feel I showed a pretty aggressive stance, and its okay with me, if you thought it was nauseating, and it’s okay with me if you think I’m one of those intolerant people, and it’s okay if I patted a brother fireman on the back, and it will be okay, if I don’t buy from you, right Pt?
You have a nice day Charlie, thanks for the info…fly high, be safe…later, bud

First and foremost, an AMA drone deems the hobby can only be fulfilled via AMA’s sublime direction or endowment and dutifully stand at attention while pledging their allegiance to the AMA emblem daily. LOL
Secondly, the AMA drone’s modeling brotherhood does not extend outside the AMA fraternity… An AMA drone truly believes all aero modelers in the US should join and support the AMA… other aero modeling hobbyists (non- AMAers) are simply labeled renegade, outlaw or some other second class modeler term. An AMA drone promotes the AMA first and the hobby second via the AMA. Non AMA drones promote the hobby first and then the AMA. Philosophically, a great difference between the two mindsets and could be argued endlessly.
But more to the point an AMA drone disagrees with the above and will make a nonsensical argument to discredit this post or my point…the real litmus test! LOL
BTW the mission statement for an AMA drone is:
AMA is a self-supporting, non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote development of model aviation as a recognized sport and worthwhile recreation activity
for its members.
Oh one more thing...an AMA drone has absolutely no sense of humor. Panties get wadded up real easy.
Fly low, fast and furious! Even if all you have is a Lazy Bee. hehehe…
