Hey guys I am new to boating but not to the RC community. I am currently waiting for my TC31 to arive and cant wait to run it. My question to you guys that have these boats are.
What is your current set ups ie..motor/prop/...ect? MPH numbers would be great too
What do you think is a MUST to swap out on these boats?
Not to sound like a d!@k but please dont tell me about the little things here and there that went wrong that should be glued, grinded, fiberglassed or modded...theres 59 pages for that.
Any little help would be greatly appricated.

My buddy and I both run TC31's with the stock motor. The boats came stock with prather 210 and 215 props. My TC31 gps'd 27.8mph with the 210 prop. We upgraded props to Octura x445 and x447 and have seen significant speed increases though have not gps'd them with the new props....hopefully this weekend.

These engines like a bigger prop. 1st upgrade to either prather 225, octura x447,x645,x547, or m447. Then you can start fine tuning, ie balance, strut height etc. At least that's where I would start. The stock prop is too small.
I might also invest in another flex shaft just incase the stock one doesn't make it. I ran 2 times and it broke. I grease the shaft well, but I do believe it was the strut adjustment that did it for me.

M445 is my prop, will run mid 30's any day. Make sure you keep the flex shaft greased good, otherwise it will fail on you.
Here is a video of mine running the stock except M445 setup.

Yea, I have a prather S-225 that I can't wait to get on the boat....I just need to get it balanced and sharpened.

I just checked out TLR's website and they have some really nice deals on their props. I just bought a bunch of raw octura props from finedesignrc.com, a different vendor and should have checked out TLR's site. TLR would have saved me 3-4 hours of work. It looks like they updated their site and the price for the props are definately worth checking out. I think aquacraft has some good props too, but their although balanced out of the package, need some fine touches (aka sharpening).

Yes, there are forum members who have had bad experiences, but Of course each situation is going to be different. I think I'm going to try the y547 speed bead since I didn't buy that in my last order (I went with raw x646 and m447. TLR doesn't offer raw props on their site, but I'm sure they'll sell you some if you ask). I had an m447 before the thundercat and for curiousity had someone with a shockwave 31 try it. Well his boat woke up BIG TIME. Since I didn't have a boat that was appropriate for it at the time, I sold it to the owner for the price of a raw prop (I did balance and sharpen it but I'm no pro so I didn't charge for what I did).
Just check it out. If you're looking for a prop to pop on, the price they charge is hard to beat. It'll definately save you time. I like to balance and sharpen props, but the copper beryllium, the dust isn't the safest (cause cancer). And when I'm done with one prop, 2 hours passes by.
Currently, I'm obsessed with props since they make such a huge difference when you go from bad props to a good prop. (ie, I have a super vee nitro 27 and going from a stock prop (x437/3) to a abc 4052/3blade increased my speed from 35mph to 39.8mph with just the change in the prop.
Bottom line, after your break in the engine, an octura m445,m447,m645,y547 or prather's 225 will improve speed compared to the stock 215.
Good luck.
Ron

You will beat the V24 easy, that header on the V24 will break pretty quick and he will be down waiting for a header. I wouldnt buy the V24, its just not as good as you would think ( my father-in-law has one).

Anyone try a prop larger than 50mm? I have 452 and I am interested in running it. I'll have to wait because I broke a flex shaft.

maybe it's too big, i tried x447 but need to raise the prop way up, getting decent speed but not an all around prop,,just my observation.
