Default Baby 260 Build Thread

Well today I got the honor of picking up my new baby Extra 260 today. I didn't really do much today but tomorrow will be the final decission. I'm still looking for a motor to put in but I'm thinking maybe to go electric. But that is a way down the road. I'll start ordering parts and what not soon and I'll keep you up to date with any progress.

Okay so I've made up my mind as to how I want to mount the motor. It's like in the pictures only with standoffs so it'll fit out of the cowl. I have just started to cut it so I'm covered in fibreglass. Any way I'm fixin to eat dinner so I'll finish up and get some pics today or later tomorrow.

Will be interesting to read how yours goes.

Good Luck

thewrap,

I just found out that WH has the 120 size planes and I really like the Extra 260. I had the Extra 300LX with a G62 and they are a very good quaity plane. looks like a good plane for a Brillelli 26cc gasser. I flying the Aeroworks .90-1.20 YAK 54 with an OS 120AX and the power is great. I really like this size of plane. They fit into my truck with the cover on and the bigger size flys a lot better than the small ones. Can't wait to hear some flight reports.

Well at this pace since I'm very slow and typically cautious should be around this weekend. But I think the 120Ax would be a great match. I'm putting mine with a Saito 125. I'll get video of what it does.

I'll measure I think they are close to like 1 7/8. And that should give the backplate of the spinner about 1/8in of clearance.

24oz is a bit big. I'm not sure what size I'm going to use. I'm planning on getting that from Tom this weekend. As well as wheels.

thewrap,

How does the cowl match up to the fuse as far as fit and color? Some of the pics look like the fit is not very good and the color is off.

The fit is fine and like most the color of the cowl to plane is partially off. But that's something you won't really notice in the air. But right now I'm waiting for epoxy to dry which should put the maiden around Sunday Monday since I have a 3 day weekend.

What are the "phenolic control horns and semi-finished CA hinging" how are they different from the conventional type?

Zippi- I hope Tom doesn't get angry with me posting this, but here's what he said on another site when someone asked that question.

"It means that the plane uses CA hinges, and they are already installed in one side of the control. Slots are cut in the other side.

For example the hinges are glued into the rudder and slots cut in the fin. So all you have to do to hinge the rudder is slide the exposed side of the hinges into the mating slots and drip some thin CA on the hinge. This takes about a minute to do.

I can do all the hinging and install all the control horns in about 10 minutes maximum.

TF "

I'm not sure if I like the idea of the hinges being glued into one side. Seems like the hinge will be pretty hard after a few drops of CA are applied to the hinge to get one side glued in. I'd rather do it all myself because it doesn't take that long anyway. Seems like a waste of their time to me. What about the control horns, whats up with them?

They are actually very fine. No different then if you just went out and bought some. So no they are not hard and they hold excellent. And the contol horns are very stiff. Even if they are composite.
