I am not a big fan of the wingy things, but that really looks good. I always thought it would be cool to design a speedy incorporating an old CL Speed pan.

Man, that thing is bad! I do fiberglass and I have to say from a professional stand point that Slip stream IS the work of a master. Absolutley beautiful craftmanship.

Why Yes, Yes It Does Look Great In The Air! My partner (the master moulder) in this team effort is the artist as well, he chooses to remain private at least for now. He insisted on 2 weeks of sanding, filling, sanding, primering, sanding, filling, sanding, primering, sanding...etc...etc...etc... before paint day. Paint day itself was a 28 hour push working straight through, my main job was to hold a 3ft 2 bulb flourescent light fixture opposite him and the paint guns and keep moving to get sprayed as much as possible (If I ever put myself through that again I WILL be wearing the absolute best mask that money can buy). And then I had to go to work at my job........... MAAAAN that was a long day[sm=what_smile.gif]
Here is a little tidbit for you, his system is Deltron PPG and I did'nt even have to buy quite all of the concoctions involved because he had some stuff still stocked from years ago that he still trusted enough to use on our pride and joy, BUT at the paint shop I still spent $444.44 to paint a 40" x 40" airplane.

Wow, you don't wanna stack that up. $$$$$$$ And that plane has a high "stack factor." That goes hand in hand with "pucker Factor".

Hey there Roger! I saw the picture of German guy's blue delta to. If memory serves, he said that it was as streamlined as a delta could be... It did'nt happen easy but I like our streamliner tunnel better! Also, we committed to building this airplane many years ago. Sooo in the intervening years I had TWO engines purpose built by Dub for the airplane depending on what size and weight we decide to build it. One of them is a 40 sized block F.I.R.E. 60LX, but we ended up deciding to mold something much larger (for reasons that are still a State secret) So the engine of choice became the .60 sized block F.I.R.E. 90LX. Even so, at 800sq" we have WAAY more wing area than the German / F.A.I. F3S speed contest rules require for our all up weight.
This IS a big airplane for speedy deltas the way most guys who have designed them in the past think, and the prototype Slip-Stream is a stout airplane in every way for her designed flight envelope, 7.5lb dry; and I self hand launch her with a pound of fuel onboard. -But- do the math, an 8lb + airplane at 800sq" always handles even better then the same airplane at 4lb and 400sq", Soo yes she turns quite nicely.

The tanks are 2 Bubble Jett 8oz bladder tanks plumbed in parallel. They have among other things as part of their mounting system a particularly strong black velcro strap robbed from a 90 sized heli. As far as the big patch of black you see in the area around the apex of the marine tuned pipe in the pictures of the airplane before paint, that does not touch the pipe (although it does get TOASTY warm in my hand when I launch the airplane) It is just carbon cloth in the lay-up of the molded streamliner tunnel to re-enforce it so I can squeeze it hard enough to hold it back without breaking her. Also notice the patented "Opti-Grab Handle" finger tip recess. (apologies to Steve Martin and
"PlaneBender" Dave Sullivan)

YUP, my feeling exactly, I have followed control line speed design since the late 60's and since teaching myself to fly RC in the early 70's I always dreamed of a PURE optimized RC design. Well thats already been done for the for the F3D guys by guys like Big Bruce De'Chastel down under (I have one of his record holding Evolutions); But when I started flying diamond dusts, then clipped wing (52.5 degree sweep) Diamond Dusts in the mid 90's I absolutely marveled at how phenomenally well they tracked through extreme G-force corners. I became increasingly preocupied with what a waste it seemed that none of the world class designers would bother truly optimizing these poor yet deserving little ******* children (whether or not they can compete with a long skinny high aspect ratio pylon racer on even par)
Hence the genesis of our design.

On behalf of my partner and I, Thankyou VERY Much, I have been on sabbatical from the ratrace yuppy gainful employment thing for a number of years working at a large and happy family hobby shop specificly for the privilege of helping and showing respect to the fine builders who came before and still have their nose to the grindstone and one eye on the sky. As well as taking every opportunity to foster growth in new builders. (When I'm on my game they never realize that I hypnotized them into trusting themselves) I fail at those missions often (you just cain't reach some men), but each success is priceless!
