MP jet 061 diesel
I called Ed Carlson a couple of nights ago regarding a couple of things on my Modela mentor high wing 09-15 size since the instructions are in Czech > During the course of conversation I brought up the Mp jet 061 There is a chance they may be an other production run of these in the future they have already started Letmo or about to martin
Rather than web site he said direct phone contact is better thus a one on one conversation this could
be 2-3 months out
his phone 602 863-1684

I've noticed over the years that Ed Carlson really does like to talk to the people who buy engines from him. My calls have always lasted way longer than the time needed for the sale. No wonder the website seems to only be a catalog.

I also talked to Ed today. He hopes to get a batch of MP Jet Classics in later. (I asked him to opt for the clear tanks!)
He also is considering getting all three of the new CS diesels, one of which is a Mills 75 copy! (can't have too many Mills copies!)

Mills 75 copies are always welcome!
BTW, Ed Carlson will always pick up the phone if he's there. I phoned one Sunday morning expecting to leave a recording and he picked-up. Was on his way to the flying field and was grabbing some stuff. I've never met him in person but he seems to be a nice guy.

RE: MP jet 061 diesel
I spent several weeks in Germany and the Chech Republic last summer and scoured the hobby shops for small diesels. No luck. I thought I could at least score an MP Jet. Every place I stopped the result was the same -- small diesels are impossible to get even used. The only old diesels available are the larger displacement versions of the ubiquitous Taifun and big stuff leftover from the SovBloc era.
If they make a new production run, I'd really want to get an .061 for both control line and R/C use.

RE: MP jet 061 diesel
I have the MP Jet Classic, and used to have the MP Jet Letmo. They look similar, as described above, but there are other differences. The Classic is more like a Mills 75 but uses only one mounting hole on each lug. It is a super sweet runner and will start from nearby fumes! (Well, it starts easily, anyhow.) The Classic is only .6cc, but I flew a 21 oz plane with it before.
I recently aquired an MP Jet .061 R/C diesel, but have not run it yet. MP Jet makes beautiful engines, I wish they would step-up production and increase the product line. They mostly make electric motors, ect these days.
Does anybody have an MP Jet 4mm round nose spinner nut they could spare? I could trade for a 3mm.

Currently don't have separate pic of LETMO but upper left is a LETMO and upper right is the MP Jet .061 BB diesel. Second pic is closer shot of MP Jet with venturi installed, carb and muffler beside it.

No, it's not just an acorn nut, but that's a good idea.
Yes, Ed Carlson sent me 3mm and 5mm sizes but is out of 4 mm for now. David Owen is also out of 4mm MPJ nuts.
I guess this is the downside of being anal about the fine details...

RE: MP jet 061 diesel
Well, I finally did it.
With the growth in electric power and affordable micro sized R/C gear, there are now many airframes with the dreaded electric motors up front just itching for a real engine to power them.
David Owen of Owen Engines Australia has the MP Jet Classic .040 (.6 cc) diesel in stock for $110.00 (AUD) (Less than $100 USD).
I weakened and ordered one this morning .
I looks like a mills .75 cc.
I am kind of excited ... I understood production of these jewels had ceased 5 years ago, but pent up demand has caused the factory to commission another production run. Whether it will be a one-off or not, I am not sure.
David seems a nice fellow to deal with. He does not have a web site, but his email address is [email protected] .
He also has a "Letmo" classic 1950's style 2.5 cc diesel in stock.
I can forward a pdf of his stock and price list - if anyone is interested please PM me with your email address and I will forward it on.

Stewart and Fiery, here is a photo of a MP Jet Classic I got from David. I removed the fuel tank and used a 144cc separate fuel tank. Real nice engine. I followed David's instruction for staring and adjusting this motor. Easy to start and adjust. Jack I hope I have attached a photo of this fine engine with this text.

RE: MP jet 061 diesel
14cc thats better , I was gonna say 144cc's it would run all week , even with 14cc the run time should be good. I'm wondering how well the classic will go with an R/C carby?

Stewart, Master Airscrew 8/3 Olde English Mix fuel, After 10 runs 8,300 steady. 8,400 - 8,500 but would not hold. last July with temps in the 70's F. and dew point in the 50's. Other folks are getting high RPM numbers. Maybe with more runs performance will improve. Jack

RE: MP jet 061 diesel
Sounds like pretty acceptable performance for a .6 cc engine!
If mine will run to those figures, I will be very pleased. I was going to use an old 7 x 6 on mine, only because I have one on hand.
Can you advise the crank shaft diameter? Also, what is your fuel mix? I presume Olde English is the traditional equal parts ether, kero and castor?

RE: MP jet 061 diesel
How funny! I have the M.P Jet Classic also, and run the same blue M.A. 8x3 prop with "olde English" fuel mix! I just ordered a 2nd Classic from Mr. Owen. I once flew a 60" pylon old timer with this engine (21oz), just to see if I could.
Prop shaft is 3mm, but the prop driver has a boss on it that requires a fairly large 7mm hole in the prop. Of all my engines, this is one of my favorites!

RE: MP jet 061 diesel
The instructions that David Owen have included with this engine recommend the 8/3 Master Airscrew prop. 7mm or 9/32 hole in prop required to fit the prop on the motor. Not sure what Eric Clutton's Olde English fuel is, but has worked well in all my old vintage diesels big and small. David has a great two full pages of instructions and tips on use of this nice little engine. Factory instructions are also included. I followed David's instructions to the letter. The best instructions for a diesel engine I have ever see. I am not a fan of small diesels prefering 2.5 cc or larger diesels. But this little motor is an exception. My favorite small vintage diesel at this time. Jack
