Hi ALL,

Decided to do the Canopy today,it took a good bit of masking but got there in the end.
Sprayed it all interior green first then some primer so I could burn all the rivets on,the reson for spraying it green first is that it svaes you painting on the in side later, plus once you have burnt the rivets on and once you have painted it black for the chrome, you get all the rivets on the inside, looks fairly good.
I added some extra detail on the canopy, hinge and some raisd panels.

Cheers Graham.

Hi SJN,

Good to heer from you,yes the paint is German product, Lesonal Platnum, It's harder waring than the Alsa Mirra Chrome and just slightly duller, but you can get some great effects from it.I'm going to weather it all,and then with some fine grade wire wool scuff it all back so you can see all the blues, and purpels base coats.

Here is the origonal thread, it seems to be working now, yesterday I could not get on it,thats why I have started this one[>:] http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_69..._1/key_/tm.htm

Here are some more of the canopy and I also managed to get the anti glare green on toady as well.

Cheers Graham.

Hi All,

Center section is now done so I'v got to leave it for about a week to cure, after that I can hit it with the wire wool and a dirty wash.

Cheers Graham.

Thanks Graham!

Unbelievable... thats how I want my TF to turn out... expecting a bit much? Ha!

I'm not sure I will ever get tired of rivets... ask me that again 1/2 way through the Mustang...

Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Goose,

I'm sure your P51 will come out great,it's all the prep work you have got to keep on to of,it just seems to get more every time I do new aircraft,I think I'm own worst enemy.
Goose keep us posted on your p51,always interested in any warbird.

Hi Dave,
Yes I don't know what happened to the other thread,it just would not let me load up the pics[&o]
Guess what,Ali's 190 turned up in a Cab this moring,so I'm rather over crowded now, need to bring some stuff down to the WF.
Is Di still talking to Jason!!!!!!

Cheers Graham.

Hi Richard,

Thank's again for your kind words, yes once you have got the hang of this product it's very to use and the results are geat, but again this is also down to how you prepare your base coats and also choice of base colours.

Richard, regarding the paints durability and how it reacts agaist petrol,"GAS", this will be down to your choice of clear coat, but the Lesonal Platnum chrome is enamel base and will cope with oil and petrol very well ,only if it is not left on for long periods of time.
I would recomend clear coting ,but I will only clear coat the under side of the booms on the P38.
To get your clear coat to work and not dull the chrome is rather tricky, but can be done, again this is through practice and I ahve found the key to this is heat, and this is best done with a hair dryer,NOT A HEAT GUN!!!!!!
Basically you want the surface fairly warm but not melting point!!!!!so once you spray your top coat it set's fairly rapid and, I would only do this in easy to manage sections,as the guys that do all the cars on the alsa web page have acsess to the big ovens.
The best top coat for the Lesonal and Alsa Mira Chrome is" SPEED CLEAR" by Alsa.

Back on the 38,
I have been working on the booms and Rad scoops,I thought these were going to straight forward and not so many rivets, WRONG!!!!! once you start researching on them and looking at the drawings & photos you soon realize how much detail they have.

Cheers Graham

Hi Graham,

Good to see you last night and a big thank you for bringing down the centre section of you P38!! the photos look good, but unless you see this in the flesh you dont get the full effect, as you move around it the panels change colour and you can duplicate that with photos alone....again very well done, lots of work and it notices!!

I got half the fuz decals done on the Hawk today, takes time but they are very good and quite easy to apply...

See Ya Soon...

Hi Graham,

Fantastic workmanship! Are you scribing your panel lines or taping under primer and pulling off the tape before top coats? If you are using tape how wide is it, is it vinyl or crepe, and where do you get it?

Thanks much,

Roy

Hi Dave,

Yes it was good to se you all on Friday, How did Mick take it!!!!! does he like his new Al's Sport Jet
Dave, the Hawk is looking so good and It is the same thing, you got to see it in the flesh!!!the tones of the paint you have used are bang on,it's going to be hard for you to give it back, the JET BUG has set in!!!!!!!!
I think we are all going to have a good laugh up at Scampi,I might have a Baby Shame or twooooooooooooo.

Hi Roy,
Thanks for the kind words on the 38.
Regarding the panel lines I was using the fine Chart tape until I ran out and my good friend Dave [Pitsspecial} gave me his fine Vinyl lines which he gets from a Vinyl Graphic shop.
I prefer the vinyl tape as you do not get the sticky residue you get left behind from some chart tapes and this is such a pane to remove from inside your nice new panel lines.
I lay all the panel lines down on primer and then paint over with more primer to build up the line then wet & dry back then remove.

Hi Richard,
Regarding the rivets and the tools I use, nothing fancy,I just use a cheap soldering iron with a selection of brass tube, and for the fastners I use a blow torch to heat up the bigger tubes, and for the screw heads just an old screw driver filled sharp and filed to the inner size of your tube, then heated up with blow torch start gently applying the slot or star head screw,it's a matter of practice but once you get the hang of it and knowing how hot to get it's fairly quick to do.

Cheers Graham

Hi Graham,

Well if you like it then i will do it that scheme, the other scheme had the green and white stripes over the fuz and wings, the nose art would make a good logo for Tigermodels to! that cat is from the 'jungle book' you would have to be Baloo the bear!! lol lol

That link to that P38 looks good, niiiiiiice and chrome!!!!

Hi Phil,

I hope the Graham can get the P38 done for your Cottishal meeting, he will defanatly bring it, lets hope its ready to fly by then, ive got lots to do before that date, lots of planes to repair/finish etc.......arrrrrrrrrrrr[][]

All the best,

Thanks Graham

If I were to go with this finish using black base coat followed by the "aluminum/chrome paint ," then who's paint product do you guys tend to favor at this point?
