Default volcano two speed transmission

Just curios if anyone has changed a volcano over to the twospeed transmission and if you so what are the pros and cons.
I am very new and any help will be greatly appreciated!

From what I've heard it's not a good idea. The tsunami has a 2 speed and most people switch that over to a single speed and actually get more low end AND top end. The volcano would just have even less low and top end because of the large tires.

Ya, stay away from the 2 speed, though you could do it if you upgrade your cluthbell to lower teeth. I'd say get the direct drive system with the 13 tooth cluthbell from clermont. Eroof told me that it will help both low and high end power.

You can get the 2 speed with a 13/18T clutch bell, but it won't be worth it on a Volcano. Get the single speed instead. i am running a 2-speed in my volcano, but thats because my engine has enough power to shift into 2nd gear.

I put a 2-speed trans in my Volcano, ran it for a week and didn't like the performance it produced. If your a speed junkie whos willing to give up off the line speed, Than this is the mod for you with a 13/18t clutchbell. If you like fast launches than the single speed with a 15t hpi vented clutchbell is a winner. I personally didnt like it the whole "attitude" of my truck changed... Dont waste the money in my opnion use it to upgrade your clutchbell...

Well I bought the Volcano T2 and I loved it till my front upper arm holder snaped (My Fault) and the 43 tooth crap plastic spur gear got screwed and it did that while still in the break in I was on the 3rd tank.......I had the motor set into it as far as it would go and it still barely made contact that why it stripped the T2 is a waste of money Redcat Support HAS NO CLUE HOW TO HELP YOU WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!!

So, why is there a 2 speed Volcano if 2 speed transmission sucks?

the new sealed 2 speed transmission that is in the volcano T2 is a much better 2 speed then redcats old one, and i also think that it comes with the sh engine which provides a little more power to help it out, but for the volcano it's almost as good to just get the direct drive because it will boost your low end a quite a bit more while still bettering the high end from the original transmission.

i think (not positive) that you will loose bottom end torque, but probably gain top end speed by going to the 2 speed.
you may need a big parking lot to get it wound out in second gear from what i've heard.

powerfull, probably not, faster, yes.
if i were you and you have and sv than buy the direct drive trans with a 13 tooth clutchbell. I know sombody sells that as a package, but i'm not sure who, so ask around.

on the direct drive....does it eliminate the slipper clutch ?
if it does, how can you idle the engine without the truck moving ?
or is it referring to direct drive in terms of gear ratio ?

You idle without moving on all rc cars because of the clutch shoes, not the slipper clutch. The clutch shoes only engage the clutch bell and make it turn when the engine reaches a certain speed.

So is better to have a direct transmission with 13t clutch bell than the new volcano t2's transmission?

i have a t2 and it is pretty quick but the acceleration isnt the best its not slow but the torque isnt there it doesnt even try to pop the front end up AT ALL so if you want lots of torque and accelleration then dont do the t2 but if you want the speed get the t2

Ok so this is how it is. The stock tranny on the sv isnt good because it has so many gears, so when you get the direct drive, which is one gear, it gets rid of all the rotational mass, and it changes the gear ratio so it gives better accel and top end, i have it and love it. So if you put the 2 speed in there, it doesnt have the torque to pull it. The 2 speed is meant for the buggy, which has small tires, the volcano has big tires which makes it hard for he engine to pull, Try and put volcano wheels on the buggy and see how it goes, not good, same thing. So if you want awesome top end, get the 2 speed, but you wont have any accel, If you want the best of both get the direct drive. Im pretty sure the volcano t2 tranny wont work in the sv, but im not sure i havent looked at the t2 much. The t2 is good because it has a different tranny, and different gear ratios for a truck. These are beginner rc's so dont expect to pull wheelies, the tmaxx does because it runs really really lean, and it cost a lot more. So get the direct drive, a header, and pipe and you will be good

here is the direct drive http://allaboutfunhobbies.com/store/...roducts_id/149

The single speed won't fit into the t2 it has a different chassis than the regular sv
