Default New Jet Cat P-160SX

Well I was privilaged to get one of the first production P-160SX Turbines from Jet Cat, we installed it in the Ultralightning over the weekend at CA-Jets 08. This thing is off the hook, the extra power in this big sportjet made a big difference in performance. Verticals are for days and the smooth starting and throttle responce is the best I have ever seen in any turbine.

The guys in Cali im sure will agree this plane and engine combo is Bad *****....

Way to go JetCat!

Super, this means you get to answer all of the "when do I get mine" questions.

Yeah - exactly !! When DO I get mine, Darcy ?

I'll tell you what - you can keep the truly wonderful, brand new shiny Jetronics valve I gave you over the weekend, if you send me your used and dirty P160 SX. It's not every day that you'll get a smoking deal like that, so call now - operators are standing by !! But wait - call in the next 2 minutes, and you will get TWO valves for the same trade.

Seriously though - I'm looking forward to the 160 SX that's on order for my Jag. A bit more of a draggy airframe than the Ultra Lightning, but I'm sure it will move it along nicely nevertheless.

No worries buddy - that's what spare parts are for.

I'm glad to see that you like the SX so much. I'm actually not quite ready for mine yet (still building the airframe) but I'm already drooling.

I'm not picky ... I'd settle for an updated Jetcat website with info on it.

Darcy, that 160sx ROCKED in the UltraLightning....I'd say it moved that big bird around "with authority" .

How is the fuel burn compared to a Titan?

Good meeting you at CA Jets! cyal8r -

Hill climbing....sweet...

Barry likewise man, great meeting you this weekend s well...

The fuel burn went up exponentialy because the minute I took off I was Full Throttle until landing, the flights that I demoed the slow flying I got 9 mins, but the Hammerdown flights I got 6 with a few go arounds left...also because the fuel pump was at WOT trying to feed this thing my ECU Batt was being taxed to death...Thanks to RCI and Skymaster for lending me a 4000 Lipo...

Darcy won Best Sport Jet AND Best Turbine performance with this engine in his Ultra Lightning at California Jets last weekend.
Some of it has to do with how Awesome the airframe is
Some of it has to do with how Awesome the Engine performed
.....and maybe a little to do with how be bends the sticks too![8D]
That engine makes me want an airframe to fit it in.
Great job of flying bro, and congratulations on the awards.
See you soon,
Dave

Darcy - thanks for the photos, I am I missing something or is there no plug on the top of this thing?

We're putting one in our new Ultralightning (once we get it).

seanreit I will get all the info today when I pull it off the ecu...

Phil there is a small flat plug where the old style kero plug and glow plug goes, there is just 2 lines going into the front side of the turbine now, one 4 mil and one 3.

From my discussions with Bob, it's my understanding that this motor comes with the internal kero-start igniter.

So, let me get this straight:

More power but same weight as the SE
Internal kerostart
Really fast spool-up time

The next thing they'll be telling us is that its the same price as the SE.

This is way too nice a turbine for me,

Phil

I was lucky to have a protoype SX in my Blue Angel Tamjet Superhornet at CA Jets on Friday. I have about 15 flights on it and it really pushes that jet around great! I had an SE in this airplane for a year so it was a perfect airplane to notice the differences. The take off weight is around 43 pounds so the extra power was well noticed as well as the mid to full throttle response is virtually instant.

Thanks Jetcat!

Patiently waiting for hard info on the 160SE from JetCat USA........rumors at FJ 2008-------about $400.00 more than a Titan SE.......so about $4195.00......Jet Cat Germany lists a 160SE, not sure if this is the new motor or the European name for the Titan SE, but lists 163N at 125,000 and temp at 750C.......that's 36.64 lbs thrust presumably at STP......supposedly if cranked to 128,000 might crank out 38 lbs from rumors at FJ.....wonder at what temp?.......fuel consumption at 125,000 listed at 570 ml/min----19 oz/min, so probably over 20 oz/min when cranked to 128K...not sure if JetCat lists fuel consumption by weight or volume, but that's getting up into my P-180 range of 630 ml/min----21 oz/min.......

Local guys have ordered about 6 of these motors......anxious to see them soon, as I am looking to update my 2 older standard Titans.....

Interesting look-alike and similar fittings to Graupner G-Boosters......who manufactures the G-B's.....any sharing of technology or parts with JetCat?
