Seeing as I'm both a modeller and a fishermen, i needed a way of getting the bait / free offerings to the fish in to places i couldnt cast. This got me thinking... and designing.
I generally fish weedy, difficult ponds for Carp (I'm ex Brit and weird ).. where a 'normal' boat would get its prop tangled in the weeds. BD1 should ride over the weeds and hopefully should only cause minimum disturbance to the water surface.
The BD1 (Bait Delivery 1) was born... and over the last week I have been putting it together from bits from my scrap box.

Good idea!
I too believe you should have rudders w/o holes in them.
I am also a little concerned about the open servos in the floats. If they get wet, they may fail on you.
Have you got them water-proofed?
How do you plan on keeping the line from getting into the prop?
I'm looking forward to seeing your first fishing trip with this. Do you have video capabilities so we can see it in action?

thats i good idea but you need to plug the holes up on the rudders or youll have crappy steering

The line comes out from the bottom of the 'delivery box' and under a bar that runs across under the motor mount, this is below the level of the tip of the prop. The rudder mount is also below the level of the prop tip... so in theory, the prop tip shouldnt come in to contact with the line.
Will see what i can do about the video..

ok one thing i noticed was ur battery is open and if for some reason that gets wet and its hott it can explode(happened to my friend) also for more power go bigger battery
the servo should be fine i do the same with my servos without replacing them or waterproofing. ive flipped my boat upsidedown and brought back to the dock with servo moter and speed control completly under water.

so are you goingto catch a fish with the boat? or just bait an area for fishing.

Seeing as the carp i am going for are 20lb+, i dont thing fishing 'with' the boat would be a good idea...

With a '555' chip, a few diodes and a capacitor or two, you could trail a wire behind the boat and do some 'telephoning' for carp. (I didn't tell you that. And if you get caught, I don't know you!)

BD1 has completed its first sea trials and completed its first 'drop' (with the aid of two rubber ducks)
Now to see if it will ride over weeds ok and tow a line behind it....

Just saw this web page yesterday - [link=http://www.avivafishinbuddy.com/]Fishing Buddy[/link]
Not exactly the same; they are actually fishing with the boat, rather than just delivering the line from the pole.
Good luck with that, you may have a product to market!

The Carp (I know, I'm weird) would drag a little boat like that under in an instant...
Like the famous saying.. "You are gonna need a bigger boat"!.

Man the fish around here would swallow that boat hole I think bringing the line out is a much better idea

Just an idea but could you make a safety release on the boat so say after 2lb of pull on the line it would release. Maybe another servo so you can drop the line when you need to, think this would work vary well for you and save your boat to. Get a fish drop line pull fish in drive boat to shore reconnect line and send it out agene [8D] bringing the fish in with the boat still connected would be a pain in the but. Was thinking something like a dead bolt for the latch with a servo simply a piece of wire throe 2 prices of tubing where the line would fall throe the gap between the tubing. for the release with out a servo simply a hinge type flap with a magnet at one end that would hold the line then with enough force on the line release it (over coming the magnet) and letting the line go, to connect simply put the line in place and flip the magnet into position (or metal hinge)

The baited hook / line will be contained in the box, together with a few free offerings... the boat will be driven out to the 'drop', bait released and the boat returned to shore.
IT WILL NOT BE USED FOR FISHING FROM... [:@]
I'm fishing for Carp in the 20+lb range, so trying to fish FROM the boat would be STUPID!

Make sure you check the legality of this, I don't mean to be a wet blanket, but you should check. I once had some minnows I was gonna put in a fish tank, and was told by a game warden that this is illegal. You can catch them, kill them, but you can't keep them for pets. I learned to check for everything before doing it. I hope it is legal, cause it should be, but you never know.
As far as the drop mechanism goes, check out the flat line clips that they use in offshore fishing boats, or maybe an outrigger release clip, it could be fashioned to work with a servo and would open with a set amount of pressure, which is adjustable.
Good luck,
I've caught carp up to 60 lbs in the pocomoke river, and they fight hard. Don't appologize for fishing for them, there tougher, smarter and harder to catch than any bass ever is.
