Hi Guys,
For those of you who have built, touched or even just seen the Yellow Aircraft SCALE COCKPIT DETAIL KIT............SPIT151
I was looking for some feedback as to 'scaleness', weight ,construction and value. (as in is it worth it)
Thanks,
Brad

I have one in my Yellow Spit. Looks good, easy to install but a little pricy. But you pay for the quality and the ease and convience. No painting or anything. Will try to get a photo. My Spit is in my van. Leaving for Warbirds at Mac Hodges. I did not find the weight to be a factor and since I have never seen a real Spit interior it looks like the pictures. I used a Action figure British Pilot and I like the look. I will never try to be in Top Gun so its clos enough for me. Stuka Jon

I think I have one right here. The cockpit kit weights 6 oz. and the pilot by himself weighs 6 oz. It is pretty nice. Make me an offer and it is yours. Leo

I am in the process of deciding on whether to purchase a Y/A Spitfire and your Bubble canopy conversion as we discussed earlier so will get back to you on that again and the cockpit too. I assume you would be able to post them together?
Cheers all

IMHO the cockpit kit is a piece of junk if you are looking for scale. It's only half depth, and waaayyy over priced for what you get. Might as well buy a TF P-51 cockipt kit and modify it to fit... Then again Leo did do a very nice job on his, and if it would work for you, go for it. Otherwise I might make him an offer myself! I do highly recommend Leo's bubble canopy conversion. I used it myself on my Spit under construction.

If you can wait for a month or so and don't mind the $ .. these are the best cockpit kits period. The 1/5 spitty cockpit should be out soon.

The YA cockpit kit I show in these pictures was acquired in a multi kit purchase I made with a guy in Florida recently. I do not know much about it's origin other than it is said to be a YA cockpit. I called YA and they say this kit is pre-finished as delivered. So this must be what it looks like. Cost is $100 from them. I don't plan to post out on RCU for a while as I catch up on some orders from previous posts. If you want to buy this cockpit and/or a Bubble Canopy Conversion just send me a PM and I'll get back to you.

Here are some pics of a custom Spit cockpit for my YA Spit; My good friend in Colorado has the plane for the finish details. He is a master at scale plastic model building and he offered to do some detailing for my Spit.

That's a nice cockpit there! I've been looking at the DBalsa 1/6 scale (for KMP Spit), not impressed so far.[

I'm not good at scratch building myself but if I could build a spit cockpit half as good as yours I would be happy.
Enjoy,
Vasek

Thanks, I will pass on the compliments to Damon. He has been building plastic models (and modifying them ) for years. He used to compete with them. It is amazing to see the different materials he uses to manufacture details. He has used the old floppy discs for the dash board panel I believe.
I have a pilot figure that my youngest brother paid a company, he sent them photos of my Dad and they modeled the pilot's face to look like him. He is in a P-47 right now but he might have to test fly the Spit. My Dad told me that while he was waiting in England to be assigned his squadron he received a little over 7 hours in a Mk 5. He said it handled like a sports car but no way would he want to take that into combat after flying the P47.
