I have just got a new YS FZ110S engine. This is my first experience with a YS. Can someone tell me if I should go about and set up the engine first time I start it up, i.e. set regulator air screw etc or should I first do the break in by leaving the settings as they are from the factory and then do any adjustments after the running in period?

Since the settings for each engine to run properly will differ from one another due to fuel and atmospheric conditions you should go through the set up procedure. Just make sure you run the needle a little rich from the peak setting. Also, make sure you have a good tachometer as it will certailny make things a bit easier for you to know what RPM the engine actualy turning.

Run the engine on the ground for 1-2 thanks of fuel. Adjust the high speed and low speed needles as per the instructions. Don't adjust the regulator until the engine has a little time on it. The regulator will be very close to ideal when the engine was shipped and should be just fine until you get it broken in. After the initial 1-2 tanks on the ground, just go fly it, keeping it just slightly running rich. As you get more flights on it and it gets more reliable, keep fine tuning the high and low speed needles. Adjust the regulator only if it is needed. The regulator will seem to have the most effect in the mid rpm range. Here is a good article on tuning the YS engines.

Dont want to teach anyone bad habits, but of my 4 YS engines currently in use none have seen anything but 15% Powermaster. Don't do this until you have a very good handle on the engines and can tell what they want. If you can afford the 20-20 fuel, stay with it. Keep a good plug in her, OS 4F. Starting and running does not mean the plug is good, just that its working. Tired plugs seem to be the most frequent problem you will run into. I see a lot of sniveling about the YS engines on the net. The engilnes are outstanding, well above others and perform that way. Usually the problem encountered with these engines is the nut screwing on the needle, refuses to read and follow instructions and plays with the needle each and every run, and snivels on our forums that the engines are junk due to his incompetents. ENJOY

Hi guys. Today I finally fired up my YS FZ110 S. All I can say is WOW. What an engine! This is my first four stroker but I must say that it has impressed me. The throttle response is just awesome! I just can't wait to get it up in the air! Its installed in a Funtana X100. I have set it up with a tacho and at full throttle with an APC 16X6 it reached a max RPM of around 10,500 which I reduced down by 4 clicks on the high speed needle to around 9800. Is this too much RPM for this engine. Should I load it up with a bigger prop? I don't want to go to a pitch any higher then 6.
Also I have a Thunder Tiger 720cc tank in it right now which has inflated like a balloon under pressure. I didn't like it a lot so I'm going to change it. What kind of tank do you use for YS? I had read somewere that Dubro are the best tanks for this engine. Is that true?

Hello, the best tank for the YS is the Tettra, and for the 110 with capacity of 16oz.

Thanks all for your reply. I will get a Tettra tank then. What about the prop selection? As mentioned above I notieced that with an APC 16X6 the tacho read 10,000+ rpm's. Should I load the engine more with say a 17X6 to get the RPM below 9000?
