FLITECRAFT TEMPEST repair help
Hi got a FLITECRAFT TEMPEST
from e bay cheep as chips lol
the hull is cracked thought no problem till i got it wow a small crack its a huge crack under the hull and the side too now well it was only £11.02 including postage so cant complain
my thinking is open up the top of the hull the houses the receiver and servos tape up the crack with electrical tape and use fiber glass resin where it is cracked
after i do that put in some expanding foam not allot just a wee biot as i have already blown up a plastic hull a few years back with putting way too much in
i have a few engines so be putting a 40 on it i think not much clearance so i have a 3 blade prop that would be perfect for it but once i have it running i get a two blade prop but think the biggest i will be able to go is a 8 by 6
any tips or help will be great the hull is very light so it should go rather quick as my other air boat is a bit heavy but got a sc 61 on it so its rather fast too
UPDATE
glued up around the hull then thought better open up the top so cut a nice hole in the top at the back just make a cover for it glue it on inside the hull was very oily and dirty so filled a bucket up with very hot soapy water
leaked like a tea bag so will have to spend some time gluing the cracks then im going to put glass fiber resin inside the hull around where the cracks are that seal it up then going to put in some expanding foam not much but if there is more holes that find it make the hull more solid too just enough not too much as put some in a hull a few years ago way too much two weeks after i put it in the hull sort of went up like a balloon
that boat never sank tho lol going to put a a 21 on it as the 40 i have is a bit on the heavy side i will keep you all updated on the progress

RE: FLITECRAFT TEMPEST repair help
What is the Flitecraft made of? If it is made from vacuum formed plastic, chances are it is ABS plastic, in which case, Methyl Ethel Ketone will "weld" the plastic together

RE: FLITECRAFT TEMPEST repair help
You should be able to find it in any hardware store...it's a paint thinner. Just be careful when using it, it has very strong vapors. Use in a WELL ventilated area.

RE: FLITECRAFT TEMPEST repair help
Vamp,
As a general rule, fiberglass resin will not stick to plastic very well. Thats why they give you the little plastic spreaders when you purchase bondo. (Bondo is the same basic chemical as fiberglass resin, some just use polyester as the base)
That brings back memories. I had one of those Flitecraft Tempest boats back in the 80's sometime. That thing was FAST. I think mine had a Supertigre 46 in it. Got stupid and tried a .90, way too much motor and was topheavy.
Hope it turns out ok for you.
Pete

RE: FLITECRAFT TEMPEST repair help
well i have poured nearly two tins in it so far lol next expending foam but will need to leave it a few days after doing that let it expend away but not useing that much just enought to fill the front that will close the cracks as well lol
used it on a plastic boat i made a few years ago put a whole tin of the stuff in big mistake the hull nearly blew up but it never sank lol

RE: FLITECRAFT TEMPEST repair help
Wow, I have that same boat. Got it for Christmas about 15 years ago and never did anything with it. Its sitting in the back of my closet along with a thunder tiger .40 that hasnt seen a drop of nitro. Im kind of inspired to dig it out and get it running. Keep us updated on this one vamp!
