Default New project L-39

I have a new project, Skymasters L-39, I have been ask by a friend of mine to put it together for him, I have been looking at this jet for some time now and now I have the opportunity to build one.

So far so good, I worked on a Skymasters some time ago and the difference from the old to the new ARF plus is dramatic, very strong main gear mounts, super nice details struts and tires, strong fuse and wings, live hinges, simple, simple, this is a KISS ARF kit. It shouln't take that long to put togather, and it should be flying by new years ( I'm short of time this days [:@] ).

So, if you have a building tip, pictures or suggestions on building this kit please feel free to jump in and post. I will be posting pictures as I go to show my progress.

Hi Carlos. Long time no speak. I hope all is well for you?
I have also just unpacked my Skymaster L-39. Its the blue painted version and wow! I am impressed. I had read some issues on other threads about the single layer gear doors and how difficult it was to hinge them. Mine has been supplied pre hinged as well as being moulded so seem super stiff.
The Paint finish is great and I think looks really stunning. its a little heavier than I anticipated but still well within what feels like an acceptable weight.
I might join you on this thread ( if you dont mind ) as I hope to start building mine this week.
Regards Al

Ali,
I flew the Skymaster USA demo plane at Fresno Jets a few months ago, it needed zero trim and flew perfect without any bad habits. I'm not sure where it was CG'd but assuming that they went with the factory specs, its spot on in my book. P-120SE for power was perfect.
Enjoy,
Dave

Can you pretend the Euro, F15, Viper, Cougar and Yak are for you

Anyway, let's see pics of the scheme you have on the L39.

All is well here and is nice to hear from you too, please feel free to post any building suggestions, pictures here. Dave, I did not get the building manual from Kelly, any chances you could post the control travel distances and CG for this jet?

Ali, could you post some picturs of your main gear doors, I like to compare and see how they were hinged, Thanks.

We are going to be using a P-120 in the jet.

Thank you all.

Just tying up some loose ends on it. (re-checking things and changing them). As soon as I get home, it's attack of the kids, well at least the boy! 18 months and FULL of energy and the terrible two's early. PLUS my starter went out on the truck, so now we only have the car.[:@] Pain in the A%$#@ to fit it all in there! I am getting of work early on Thur and going to pick up a starter and throw it on the Toyota. I am trying to get to the field Fri afternoon or Sunday afternoon

I managed to at least get it out of the box this week!
I wasn't sure about the scheme when I saw it on the web site for the first time, but now I have it out and pushed together I am really happy. Its different ( Out of the ordinary ) and really really well applied. I have yet to see any glaring faults in the paint work, and all the rivet detail is still visible. Great Job Skymaster.
I am also really impressed by the quality and completeness of the hardware and accessories. Best of all is the new instruction manual. It has been a few years since I have been up close and personal to a Skymaster kit and wow things have changed. Whoever did the manual ( Suspecting Skymaster USA ) Put in allot of effort and did a great job.
Anyway a few photos for now. I might take tomorrow off and spend it at home making a start.

Al, I think that's a super scheme - liked it ever since the pics first appeared on Skymaster's site earlier this year and have been thinking abt doing my Foxjet in the same scheme when I get it finished...currently on schedule for sometime in 2015! Look fwd to seeing more pics.

Cheers,

Dick

Hey Dunc!
I remember having your enthusiasm and excitement about my first jet... You will love this aspect of the hobby I am sure. You did well teaming up with mr Fletch! Having seen the sort of models you have flown before you will have no trouble getting into the jet thing. I still say the right jet set up correctly with decent equipment is easy to fly.
A fox Jet in this scheme hey Dick! that would be different! 2015??? Why the rush?

Sorry for hijacking the thread, i'll follow the build with interest and newbie enthusiasm

Ali, the Skymaster USA guy's pulled that scheme out of the box and put it on display at LA Jets......Amazing. I did not think I would like that scheme as much as I did when they put it all together. The effort was just as you described, fantastic work.
Keep us posted,
Dave
