Well, do you want nitro or electric? most common is electric because you can run indoors and they are less messy. You could go rtr drift or turn a touring car into a drifter.
ELECTRIC
RTR:
-Losi Drift R
-Yokomo Drift Package
-Hpi Sprint 2 drift
-Hot bodies Cyclone drift
-Tamiya tt01 drift
ONEs TO CONVERT:
-Losi xxx-s(same exact thing as a drift R, only less $$)
-Associated TC3, TC4, TC5
-Hpi Sprint, sprint 2, rs4, Sprint 2 flux
-Hot boddies cyclone-s
-yokomo SD ssg, drift package, cgm
-Tamiya tto1, tb02, tb03
NITRO:
-Hpi rs4 3 drift
-Associated NTC3
Really the only thing you have to do to convert is through some drift tires on them. Then you can tune it to how you like i.e., spools, 1-way diff, center shaft 1-way.
Some listed above are shaft and some are belt. To each is there own on what they like to drift best. personally i like the belt drive cars. they have a smoother feel to me.

As far as motors, Most use anywhere from a 27t-15t brushed and 13.5-7.5 brushless.
your brushless motors have virtually no maintenence, just keep the bearings oiled. Brushless will yield up to 20% longer run time also.

Batteries: Anything 3000mah+ will work great. run times anywhere from 20-50min. You could also use a lipo battery, just make sure your esc is lipo compattible or have an external cut off.

Remotes:
DSM remotes are the best to use becuase you dont have to worry about the freqs of other drifters.
Spektrum dx2.0, dx3.0, dx3r, dx3s
futaba 2.4g FASST 3PM, 3PK, 4PK

Hope this will help get you started

go with the tt01(shaft driven) or hpi sprint 2 drift(belt driven). all you will need after purchasing 1 of those is get a couple good batteries and a charger = hours of fun

well, unless you get one of the prebuilt TT-01s you'll have to build it.
