anyone make an affordable rtr nitro jetboat, or maybe jet dragboat?
been into fullsize dragboats for awhile now, and i'd like to get a nitro jetboat to play with in the coves while we chill out and take it easy on racegas in the dragboats. i've seen the lil dolphin boats on ebay that look fun, but i've always been a jetboat guy and would like to find a jet to play with. anyone making dragboats or jetboats? thanx, tom e.

I'm not aware of any "affordable" rtr jet boats or jet drag boats. I think there's a jet drive unit from Germany, but it's pricey.

Jerry's right the unit is made by Graupner. It is designed for electric power, and not quite sure it can be considered a high performance unit...not sure how much power can be thrown to it before things break. There's a couple different models listed at [link=http://www.hobby-lobby.com/jetdrives.htm]Hobby Lobby[/link] who imports them from Germany. From what I see it would take about $150 for the unit and a 700 Speed motor.
It looks like it is designed more for ships which have more of a draft than something like a drag boat which will have a low profile transom.

well dang, i was hoping someone at least had a nice complete kit by now. that lil pump would work with a droop snoot on it, the droop would lower the line of thrust alil closer to the keel. wouldn't it be cool to pimp alil rooster tail behind a rc boat

The novelty of it is cool but just like the full scale jet drives they take to much power and the slip ratio is to great for racing, I have seen at some of the boat drags out here that they will run a jet boat against a v-drive but the jet will have a big inch blown engine and the v drive will be running say a 502 chevy with a tunnel ram and 2 fours and still give the jet fits at end.

I'm into fullsize performance jets too, (12-71 Blown all roller 468chev in a southwind tunnel) looked for the same thing you are, but found nothing that would satisfy my speed addiction either![] what Idid find however is a TAF Runnerbottom, with capsule designed for gas power!! (you could probably put a .90 nitro in it , if nitro is your thing) the builder of this awesome hull is also a member of this forum do a search for DaVette boats and check it out!! I'm ordering mine right after christmas

again with these small motors a nos kit will do nothing but kill the motor i run outboard tunnels with a 3.5cc cmb moded an piped on 50% nitro and its good for 85kmh im not a fan of rtr i build my own useing the best bits
like i said a a good pipe with the right motor and set up and the rigth prop will work the best we have guys in our club running 3.5cc outriggers and the pushing 110kmh on 50% nitro no supercharger no nos kit i only wish my motors cost 100 bucks or so
cheers ian

I don't know any RTR performance jet boats either. I think KMB sell an RTR electric, but I think it's pretty small. If you could fit that with a buggy engine, buggy tuned pipe, maybe remove a shim, cold plug, then you might get some perfomance.
I have a 750mm long custom boat I designed, built, running a .40 ASP nitro, if you go here:
http://www.rcuvideos.com/video/JB-avi
Weight's about 2.3Kg, thrust about 4.5Kg I think it's doing about 50km/hr
I made the jet unit too.
We have a combined Jet boat thread over in electric boats:

The rooster tails do look cool,
but I don't set my jets up to do that any more, too easy to get the RC control unit (and myself) soaking wet [&:]
