Hi I am new here and i have a few well a lot of questions
I have a car i have not used in about 6 yrs i am not quite sure what the engine is as the car is a combo of 2 cars.
the only problem i found of it being in storage is the carb at locked its self which i got loose again.
but here are my questions
how do i know if i am still getting compression
how to you know how tight to tighten the glow plug
the only way i can seem to start it is to pore a little bit of fuel into the carb to get the engine running then it stops after i do that a few times it gets fuel from the tank and i can keep it running but if i let it cut out "my idle is not set right so it cuts out quick if i turn down the throttle" after that i can not get it to start again even if i pore fuel into the carb after a bit and messing with the needle i can get it going again but its a pain. I am not sure why this is happening and i am not sure if i have it tuned right.
on the tuning where is a good place to start with the needle to tune it.
my arm is still hurting after a few hours of trying to start it and i was wondering if anyone can help i know a lot of these are noob questions but its been awhile

Try to find out which engine you have. Should be some kind of markings on the casting or head. Then search online for a manual. If you find one set the needles back to stock and start tuning from there.

1st off I would take the needles out of the carb and the carb itself off and clean it all out to make sure there isnt gunk built up restricting fuel flow to the carb. Thats where i would start. There are also alot of other things i would go through such as making sure there are no air leaks in the tank and fuel lines. Also make sure u are using good fresh fuel. And check the compression on the engine.... Turn the flywheel over and it should give u resistance... if it bleeds off that resistance pretty fast then the Piston and sleeve set is prolly shot. And if its shot once the engine warms up its not going to want to stay running. There is alot that could be going on, and trying to diagnose problems like this over the net is very difficult. Its going to be a trial and error type thing im sure. Good luck and if u have any question post up. Everyone is usually pretty nice about trying to help eachother out around here.

ok it seems like i am getting very little resistance when turning the flywheel, i do have a small leak in the tail pipe but thats the only leak i can find, does that mean my engine is shot. i really hope not as i just had this car shiped over from my house in the uk to the usa and i would hate to find i need a new engine. but if it is shot would that mean that it would not start at all?

here are 3 pics of the inside of the engine one piston up one piston down and one of the head. everything seems fine other than dirty on the outside
another question what would you use to seal the exhaust my one is a 2 part exhaust that screws together but the thead is gone so i was just going to glue it together with something like jb weld or miliput, i just wondered if anyone had anything better to use.
i did get it running again today and it stays running once i get it going and i got to turn it a little bit but if i do stop the engine its really hard to restart
