Default Tires/Wheels can they be unglued?

I JUST mounted a new set of Losi Taper Pins onto some Proline wheels. But, when I raced last weekend, either I or my son didn't tighten the wheel enough, and the key pin through the axle spun and pretty much trashed the little slot where the pin ends set in the plastic wheel.

Is there a way to unglue the tire from the wheel and just by a new wheel?

Is there a way to fix the wheel so that it will still work? I can just tighten the nut really hard, but I have to imagine it might loosen up during a race.

Thanks for the advice!

Scott

I've never tried it myself, but I've heard that if you boil the rim/tire it will come apart.

You could also try acetone (fingernail polish remover), but be careful where you get that stuff. It can damage paint and some plastics. I believe hobby shops also sell CA debonder, which is pretty much the same stuff.

Folks say a two day bath in a coffee can of acetone will work, but it can be dangerous (explosive), should be done outside, away from sparks, and not by the young folks. We plan on trying it one of these days, but have been too busy.

I highly recommend avoid using acetone unless you want a pile of melted rim...acetone will melt the plastic if you saok them in it.. even a little bit applied to a rag and wiping it on plastic will make it melt a lil bit.. I know you want to save the tires but you might just have to buy a new set. I have heard that boiling works and sometimes dosent.. I tried it once and didnt work for me but some say it does some say it doesnt work.. good luck...

Careful x-actoing and brute power is the method I use to remove the tires. It always works well for me, but it can be time consuming and a real pain.
