Dave Shawntz has my Wendell Hostetler Cess 172 kit, that includes, fiber glass wheel pants, fiberglass cowl, windsheild, nose strut, main landing gear, I believe Lazer Lizard wood to build my 172, and plans. He also has my 3W 85I opposed twin engine and pipes, I gave him $1500.00 toward building fee"s, he has my things for over 5 years, and he will not take my calls, and he changed his email address, I believe he does not wish to return my items to me. This is not a money issue it is a matter of principal.. Either do what you say you were going or be a man and return my items and $$ so I can have someone else build it for me.
My next step is to fly to you and file a police report. I would really not like to have to do that.

5 yrs seems like a long time. i wonder what the police would do? it might be too long for them to take action. you may have to fly there and take matters into you're own hand.
just saying.

Is he in the US?
Do you have records of sending all this stuff to him?
Letters, emails, etc, etc.
Could you not file a report at your local police stn, and have him charged with theft?

Wow, after 1 year I would have wanted an answer to my items and progress, if he is avoiding you then it is a legal matter, file the police report or take him to small claims court. That will go on his public record for anyone, even creditors to see, that will hamper anything he applies for in the future.

Hi All,
David Schwantz (not Shawntz) from Minnesota finished a Ziroli Corsair for me last year after the original builder ran out of steam on the project. Although it took a bit longer that originally estimated, the final product was simply outstanding, and I am extremely satisfied with the result. I found Dave fair to deal with, responsive to email and phone calls, and generally a pleasant fellow. And, his workmanship is absolutely second to none.
In short, there's got to be more to the story, OR, we're talking about a different guy!

I agree with John. Dave is a good guy and a master craftsman. He just rebuilt a wing for me. I haven't gone to pick it up from him yet, but I'm sure it will be perfect.

Whoa, he was just stating his dealings with him, not defending him, just what his experence was. If your that pent up about it, go the legal route, but don't bash other people because one guy wronged you.

I've been screwed may a times, but I'm not throwing people under the bus because someone screwed me. I still believe that to each their own, you'll get what's owed to you. Sure it's cash, sure it's principal, but you do realize that slander is an offence in it's own. So I do hope you get your plane back and and mony owed to you, but bashing him and hope people jump on the band-wagon with pitch forks and torches is a far fetch. Just persue it legally and see where it goes, don't slam innocent people because they have a opinnion on the matter and it doesn't fit in line with yours. With that, I have more important things to waste my life on than this thread, like building my own hostetler kit.

Nobody ask you to read this thread, nor do I need your post, Slander, paleeze, you probaly wouldn"t mind getting screwed the way you sound, but I don"t like it, and if you have a problem with this thread dont come in here and read it, or waste your time. How can you say dont slam innocent people, who said he was innocent, he stole from me and he did an insurance fraud, if you dont like it, too bad.

This is just ashame! I have built for others and never encountered a problem, but mostly for folks I know. I require constant communication with constructive comments discussed in an open and non confrontational venue. I have never used it but my policy is the moment either party is disatisfied then the building contract is voided, monies, parts, plane would be returned without hesitation.
Best wishes to all concerned.

what threads i see no link to any thread in here apart from whats attached to bottom of my posts. so enlighten me please what degree of fun do you get by buying a kit and so forth and leting somone else build it. if they build the plane wrong which even experts can make mistakes and it comes down and hurts someone whos to blame, the builder of the plane or the pilot who had the plane built for him.

all it needs is a moderator to come in here and see the argument and the thread will be locked
Slander, paleeze,
What do you call it when you accuse someone of something w/o proof? I don't see anything you've posted that proves that you're even talking about the same person (2 different spellings of the name?) and the report of the insurance fraud isn't a link to a news website so for all we know it could be fabricated. And there's no reason to assume from the "report" that the airplane is yours. All it says is the guy they're referring to was accused of filing a fraudulent insurance claim for the damage of a model airplane.
If I were you I'd be careful what I said. As planebuilder said, slander IS a crime. I feel bad for you and your situation but don't make it worse just because you're pissed.

f16jc,
Hey, I'm only relating one mans (contrary) experience with David Schwantz. If you don't like it, well then, just move on!
Since you decided to make it personal, I will note that Dave does have some rather stringent provisions in his builder's contract designed to weed out shysters, deadbeats, and other miscreants, who don't fulfill their part of the contract. Perhaps you fall into one of these categories [>:]?
Cheers,
John
