Pacific Aeromodel Clipped Wing Monocoupe Build

My next dumb butt stupid move [
] I forgot to check for the hard points when I hinged the elevators - of course, they were on the "top" where the covering was cut out to glue on the vertical stab. I am inverting the stab, making the fuselage cutout in the covering, and gluing the tail on the other side. Fortunately, I can get some of the cub yellow to cover the opening leaving the slot for the tail
I am a bit surprised the hard points for the horns are not the full thickness of the elevator, but - I screwed up this one ! Easy enough to fix -
Oh ya, and Merry Xmas

Paul,
Use the Du-Bro Adjustable control horns like I did, there are photos of them back a ways. You can just harden the area with soaked-in thin CA before you install them and you'll still be fine. You won't have to flip anything.
Hope this helps.

PG meyer,
If you haven't already flipped your tail consider drilling holes where you need them and use CA to harden the area and screw holes. As you stated the hardened area appears to be fairly thin (probably ply). A little thin CA and some time may save you some covering repairs. Good luck,

pgmeyer, it's not cub yellow; It matches school bus yellow pretty close. I had a spot to fix and tried using the extra peice of covering they included in the kit - It didn't even come close to matching - say what? [X(]. I then tried some cub yellow I had and it didn't match either. I did have some SBY paint and that matched.

edgeman55,
if you have them, could you post a couple more pics of your DL30 engine mounting. I'm getting tired of waiting for the engine I have on oder for over two weeks now and am thinking about slapping a DL30 in her in spite of all the problems.

I think I have those photos here of the adjustable horns.
There ya go. Just drill through for the screw, trim back a bit for the diamond plate, and harden the area and the drilled hole by soaking it with thin CA, let it dry good, then drip a drop or two of kicker into the hole before you put the screw back in (keeps the glue from gooing-up the screw) and the whole area will be hard and tough as nails. Really easy control horn, works great, and it's PERFECT for this setup.
By the way, I was wrong before, I thought some of these linkage parts were Sullivan, I've realized while browsing at the local Hobby Shop hardware rack that they're pretty much all Du-Bro, with the exception of the steering gear.. My apologies if I screwed anybody up with that.

It's the same as Sig's Yellow Oracover. In fact I htink they're the same covering. The red matches Sig's red Oracover too.

I do believe that Oracover is the European term for Ultracote. And if that's true, then it should be availabe anywhere. Check it out.

I ordered a roll of the Airborne covering but it does not match my bird - nor do the small sample pieces AM sent me.
Merry Christmas to all!

So does anyone know what in gods name this plane is ACTUALLY covered in and EXACTLY what the proper color name is in any brand that is actually sold in the USA? I just spent about 20min doing internet search and got noplace at all. There is no such thing anymore as Sig Oracover.

All, on my elevator inversion -
Great ideas with the horns, CA - etc. Unfortunately, I made 2 more goofs in quick succession:
1) Assumed the piece of covering they sent with the model was an exact match, it does not -
2) Stripping the old stuff before discovering 1)
On covering:
It looks like I will try some Ultracote Cub Yellow. My field box is painted Cub Yellow and it is about as close as you can get.
I have SIG Yellow Aerocoat, it does not match at all -
Thanks brothers for all the great ideas.

Splais,
The SIG covering is called Aerokote. It's a low temp. Ultracote like covering. I had to make some minor repairs to my Monocoupe and the Ultracote cub yellow that I had matched pretty well. It's not 100% the same color match but close enough. Unless you buy a covering film from the same batch there will always be minor color mismatches between batches.

Seagull uses Ultra coat, I had to contact a vendor because I have Oracoat and Ultracoat that seem to be the same colors. It turns our Oracoat is the parent name or company so they are one in the same.

Call Sig. The colors on the Monocoupe are the same as on the (now defunct) Cox 1/5 WACO. I bought a roll of yellow (I think it was Cub Yellow) and a roll of the Red from them. Those colors match the colors on my 'Coupe perfectly.
If that doesn't work, send me a PM w/ your address and I'll send you a swatch of each from the rolls that I have. It doesn't sound like you need much.
Merry Xmas to the Brotherhood....
Al

I checked their site, but they have very little covering left in their lineup. thanks for the offer, yes, I just have one little spot on top needs fixing where I messed up stab install. I'll call Sig and see if they have any left; it's always good to have some extra covering lying around.
