I ordered from Chief Aircraft Co.... they said they had 3 left at $399.99, so now they've got 2 left.
They said Pacific Aero Models is giong out of business, something about the owner retireing. (spelling doesn't look right)
My Dad passed away in June, at Thanksgiving my Mom said she had gotten an insurance policy she didn't know about and gave us 3, son and daughters, a check. I would never have had the $ to buy this kit....I figure my Dad would want me to have it, he got me started in all this.
Thanks Dad.

T S P >I've been laid up 4 years, fighting a sitting sore, I use a wheelchair, it's funny how hobbies and especially unknown boxws will make us feel better all the time.

Chuck,
So sorry to hear about your Dad passing. I lost mine too this year, January 2nd. There's no way to ever quite get over it, so far as I can tell, with almost a whole year behind me now.
I'm also sure that your Dad would want you to have it. And an ironic twist, I am also a wheelchair mechanic, with all my other skills!
And one of my best friends is in a chair. There's always a photo of us clowning around together right here on my desk.
Your chair dealer should be able to order you a special gel-cushion or some other rehab item that helps to prevent sores.

yeah, I was just unlucky, and ot an infection in my leg bones... it's a long story...
I have a couple of Quickee's, I just found out about the amputee plates that should make it easier to get around, I've been in a chair since 1979.
Thanks for the thoughts, I still will see something on TV and think he'd like to see this....to call.
And Yes, I am up late, waiting on the wifey to get home from work.

Chuck,
We had an airshow here with every kind of plane you could imagine this year, and last year there was no show, so I didn't get the opportunity to take Dad there. Dad used to fly in the B-25's. I was working the show for one of my clubs, and I had a tough time because they had a B-25 parked right outside our hangar, out of that whole AFB they had to park it right where I could see it. I spent about a half of my time there trying not be all choked up. Worse yet, I was working as a greeter! Oh, boy... Then that ancient pilot came walking over, reminded me for all the world of my Dad, I really had a bad time then and had to explain myself. He was quite good about it, told me that this happens to him a lot at these shows.
Quickee, that's made by Sunrise....yeah, they've got a LOT of accessories for that chair. Lots of rehab too. Remember, you can call the factory and tell them what chair and accessories you already have and what you'd like to do, and they can give you lots of recommendations.
I was up most of the night too, these muscle-relaxants only do so much. Finally had to resort to some Motrin to get any sleep.

Okay,
I have something here you will want to see! I was waiting in the cold for the Post Office to open this AM, nothing better to do since I couldn't sleep well.
I brought my little prize home, and started taking some photos.
I've already worked them so they are ready, so I'll upload them now. Hope you like them!
I wanted to give you folks an idea of just how small this engine is overall. I placed a standard 2-oz glue bottle in the photo, and I'm sure the bottle looks massive to you, but it's just a standard Bob Smith 2 oz bottle.
2nd photo shows the approximate length to the prop washer to be about 6 inches, maybe a little less.
Take a look at the Electronic Ignition system, that's a standard-sized E.I. system. The engine doesn't look to be all that much larger than it!
Photos 5 and 6 show the engine size in relation to the cowl size of the 'Coupe. Gee, I'm not sure there's enough room there....lol
Photo 7 is a shot of the carburetor, not as crisp as I would have liked. I was probably shaking a little. I use a tripod a lot, I was too excited this morning for that!
Photo 8 is a really nice photo of the muffler, it shows a lot of detail. The far side of the muffler, closest to the engine had two ports sealed by set-screws (grub screws) where I can take the banjo bolts shown in Photo 4 and attach them for running smoke. In this photo (8) you can see Todd's nice safety-wire installation.
Photo 9 is a good view of the exhaust interior, showing the inserts for sound reduction.
Photo 10 is another view of the whole engine next to a 2-oz glue bottle.
We are officially ready to rock and roll!
You will notice that I bought a few extras, the exhaust inserts of course, the smoke banjos and bolts, and the plate at the bottom of Photo 4 is for mounting the E.I. with a sharp-looking setup.

TSP,
In the Motor photos the plate across the carb opening is choke plate correct? I've never seen a choke like that. Nice looking motor, I'm looking forward to reading your assessment of it.

Obee,
The plate is a choke plate, you are correct. I believe that Todd Syssa makes that part for the engine. I've heard some of the guys complain that they think it will not work, but so few have been put out there that there is very little to go on there. I doubt Todd would have taken the trouble to equip it this way if the plate didn't do its job.
I will say this much about it. It is a thing of beauty. If it runs HALF as good as it looks this should be some sweet little engine. Having owned companies that had to fabricate some of the parts for the equipment it sold, I can say that I like much of what I see in the creation of this gasser, the KISS principle is hard at work here. It has everything it needs, comes standard with the stand-off mounts in a variety of sizes (you choose your length when you order), the muffler is already a Pitts-style muffler and a really nice piece of work all by itself. It can be opened up if you need to get inside of it because it has an access panel, and it also comes with ports that can be opened by removing a screw and you can attach smoke fittings (optional but very inexpensive) without getting a different muffler. Todd did a very good job of covering many of the bases that on other engines and motors commonly end up being extra expenses, such as buying aftermarket stand-offs, mufflers, smoke and such.
The manual does not come with it, you just go onto his site and call it up and print it out, I've had mine waiting here for a while.

$299.00 sounds about right for a G26 EI. I have a CRRC 26 that was about $249.00 with a Pitts muffler (2 years ago). I have it in an almost-finished yak right now.
I don't think you'd even miss the power difference in the Monocoupe between that and the Syssa, , only 4 CCs, maybe in some fairly demanding maneuvers but other than that I wouldn't think so.

The G-26 at Horizon is $325 magneto and #375 ei. A slimline Pitts muffler with smoke tap is $100. So, an ei version with pitts muffler is $475. No doubt that the Syssa is well priced considering. And, the Syssa is lighter and more powerful. And... the Syssa will fit in some tighter places. I have to agree that the Syssa 30 really looks well done.
Regarding the G-26, no doubt many will disagree with me but I suspect that the power gain between the G-26 and the G-20 is mostly lost in the weight difference so the G26 is only an advantage over the G-20 if one needs the extra nose weight for balance.
The Syssa 30, MLD-28, DLE 30 have weights that will allow the extra power to show up as performance.

I have an older Poulan chain saw that has that type choke. The choke knob on the outside has a fork type device on the inside that fits over the arm of the choke. Works OK.
I agree, that is a good looking engine. Kinda wish I had waited. I've got a G-26 that Ralph Cunningham went over in my Coupe. Just finished it, but I'll be having a knee replacement monday, so it will be a couple months before I'll get it in the air.

I was measuring up the plane and engine yesterday when it hit me that I had no bolts for holding the engine to the standoffs. Wrote to Todd, and he checked and said that somehow Mine had left without a hardware pack, which contains all the bolts for the standoffs and mounting, and also the ball/socket setups for the throttle linkage, odd stuff like that. He was out of the seals for the smoke on the day he shipped out to me and I knew about that already, so he is shipping me the hardware pack with the seals.
Now, if I can just get off these muscle relaxants, I don't move around so well with them, keep falling asleep....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Unfortunately I need them, because without them this shoulder hurts like the devil.
Sure can't trust myself with sharp tools right now.

TSP,
Take care of the bird because they are now extinct. I called Chief aircraft and they have two planes and two orders. He also stated that Pacific am is going away due to a retirement.
maybe I'll get a Cessna 195 instead.

Obee

Okay
I lied, I called Pacific aero and they had a couple left and I ordered one. I hope you guys will continue to contribute to this thread and I will join in when I get mine. I've got a box of servos and batteries from the old one and the G-26 ei waiting to go back in it. I even took pics of the crashed ones to remind me of where all the components go. Whooo hoo. I even paid the extra $30 for the bird from them. Oh well
