As a result of what I saw at the European Championship in Austria, I decided to invest some of grams I saved in the building process in changing the motor from Hacker XL 14 to the new Hacher Q80.

The total weight with the Hacker XL 14 is 1,488 gram (513+929+46)

its obvious that the Q80 looks cooler.

Quick question, how thick is the carbon plate that you mounted the Q80 on? It looks to be about 2mm but I wasnt sure. Thanks for your awesome work on these planes its amazing to see them come together.

Hi Ricardo,

1. I like the concept of the Q80, The force that is creating between the magnets and the electric coils has more moment on the motor shaft due big diameter of the motor, that's why I think it is more efficient than the Q60.

2. The Q80 runs colder than the Q60 (I don't like open spinners).

3. The weight difference between the Q80 and the Q60 is not so big if you take in consideration the need of the back mount of the Q60,(I don't think that the Q80 needs back support).

Is the nose rigid enough to withstand the torque of the q80 ?

A friend of mine switched to a Q80 on a plane which was intially designed for a C50, the torque was so much greater that the motor twiested the entire nose
of the model.

would hate to see same happen to your superb plane, so pls take this experience into consideration.

Alex, you got me, I had some thoughts about the nose rigid, and expressly what will happen if the prop accidently hit the ground?

In spite of those thoughts and although I don't have weight problem, I decided to take the risk and not reinforce the nose.

Now, after you tolled me about your friends incident, I am seriously reconsider to reinforce the nose.

Alex, can you tell me more details about your friends incident?

I am inviting all you fellows to give me your feedbacks about the subject and ideas how to reinforce the nose.

I recommend the rear support. It looks very easy to do and can be very light weight. Kris F flew one at Hollister this past weekend and maybe he will jump in and describe his rear support.
