Default ROYAL - MARUTAKA and MK KITS COMPLETE LISTING

Hello Royal/Marutaka fans, I am trying to compile a list of all models that were produced by Marutaka in OSAKA and distributed in the USA by Royal Products.
Mr. Masahiro Kato was responsible for designing and drawing the plans. Some of his warbirds were already sold before under his own kit label MK for M. Kato Model Aircraft Manufacturing Co. Ltd. Further on this later, I will make another list for MK kits.
Numbering has been sometimes confusing and it will need a separate list for Royal and Marutaka to clear this out. If you own a Royal catalog, an old Marutaka or MK brochure , please scan and email.
My informations are mainly coming from Marutaka.
I will edit and complete as informations become available. Please, feel free to post or email any error or missing datas

Mr. Masahiro Kato was a top FAI pattern pilot who won many Japanese National championships.

As many high level modelers, he was designing and building his machines himself. After establishing his own company, named M. Kato Model Aircraft Manufacturing Co. Ltd, he began selling his MK kits.
Parts were all first quality balsa, pre-cut and many already pre-formed. A very high level of quality was achieved, Mr. Kato being without any doubt a very perfectionnist man, how could he climb to the first place in his country otherwise?

His main products line consisted of high level aerobatic models but he also designed some scale warbird. These were soon handed over to Marutaka, so he could concentrate himself on Pattern flight, altough he continued to design and draw many scale models for Marutaka. His first scale model MK kits were diffused in very small numbers and they did certainly not bring him much money, considering the high level of craftmanship involved. I will try to establish a list of the now very scarse scale models kits and also give an outlook of his long list of stunt champions, designed by M. Kato or by some of his fellow competitors.

Besides the Cessna 310 -Q, didn't Royal/Murataka also make an earlier version? 310-G or something like that?

Welcome on board, paulinfrance, and thank you for this nice picture.

I don't have the JU87 Marutaka plan ( I whish I had to compare with mine to look for modifications introduced by M. Kato for Marutaka kits) but I have the MK Junkers J87 D-5 which is very similar in size and design. average scale is 1:7.3 , yours is 1:7.65.

My plan is showing a CG at 10 cm from leading edge, on the fuselage plan, with a wing cord measuring 41.5 cm at this location. CG is easy to check: it is exactly corresponding with cockpit side of fuse former F5 ( instruments panel).

It looks very conservative also, being pretty much on the forward side.

Happy landings!

Seeing as the the seller on ebay can't be bothered to even reply to my two mails,
i will have to take him off of my shopping list, anyway i worked out 30% being 8cm,
and PERFECT, as i flew it today, a bit faster than i remembered, than when it was
fitted with the Rossi and it alsohas a bit more response with the OS 60 i also took
out 50 gms of leadfrom the nose.

I could have my own MK Kato plans professionally copied at 600 dpi using toner dry ink, not cheap inkjet copier, and sent to you if it can help.
Cost would be 16 euros + shipping ( mailing from France is even possible ) .
MK scale size is a little bit larger than Royal but it can be reduced to fit same fuselage length if you want (better to use same fuse length than wingspan if you want to check for your CG with high accuracy)
Just drop a PM if you are interested.

Hello,
I have an MK Products Cessna 182 kit from the early 1970's that does not have plans, does anyone know where I may be able to get a copy. This is a fairly large size, I would assume for 60 size engines.

Thank you
Lewis

Hello Lewis,

unfortunatly, I don't have a plan for your MK Cessna 182.
I have the Marutaka Cessna 172 but I don't think it would help.
May be someone else could help you, don't hesitate to give the informations printed on your box and good luck.

There is also a JU 87 B2 version, scale 1/8.3 WS 65 3/8 Surface : 697Sq./in. or 45 dm² 3.2 - 3.7 kg 78 lbs .60 engine

Any plans floating around for this one? I have a wing but lost the fuselage through stupidity.[:@]

Note the aileron hinge line vs. the D model.

Default RE: ROYAL - MARUTAKA and MK KITS COMPLETE LISTING

esting to find this forum. I purchased my Marutaka kits in Hong Kong in the early '90's when I was station engineer for MAS. I have still NIB a Reliant, a Staggerwing and a Stuka. I have make (and currently unlocatable) f/g;assmold for the Reliant cowl.
What I am looking for is molds for the Stuka bits(pants, cowl etc) and theStaggerwing cowl etc. Also I am looking for the build instructtions put inthe Royal kitsfor these models if they are available
I am also looking for advice as to what sort of retracts I can use in the Staggerwing
If any one has any information regarding any of the above I would be very grateful as would my flying companions who also havethese kits

I've got scans of the plans for all the kits they had.
whats your email address so I can send them?
Also there is a guy on Ebay who has fiberglass parts and plastic canopies for all their kits for sale.

Those of you that have the JU-87 Stuka - Can you post pics of how/where you mounted servos in the wing and fuse.. along with battery/engine mounting? I recently bought on that is mostly complete and just needs to be rigged and setup. I have the plans but it really doesn't show this info. Just by holding it and seeing the CG on paper, it looks like it is tailheavy without the engine. I have a ST G90 and am strongly considering a saito 100 4 stroke. Any input is appreciated!

Marutaka/royal never did show you where to place the servo's but I will tell you do not place them past the trailing edge of the wing! They get tail heavy easy, also check the weight of the stuka if its over 12 pounds its better to hang it. I've got a 14 pound .60 sized corsair by royal and shes going to hang, maybe the ama museum will take her lol.

I have original catalogs from Marutaka that go up through their kit number 68, the Stearman. A lot of it it is Japanese, but it still provides their 'official' listing of their kits. If anyone shows interest, I could scan them and post them here. I have a reasonable set of the kits in varying conditions.

I would like a scan of the markings/decals of the Hellcat if anyone has them. Thanks.

Hi Barcandson,

I have catalogs M.R.M 0405 and M.R.M 588, so if you have anything else that could help filling the gaps, please scan.
If you don't want to post, you may just send by email and I will try to complete the list with your informations.
I will send you a pm if I can get a scan of the Hellcat's decals.

Happy Landings,
Al
