Where are they now?

This sounds like an engine that we could use today!
First excerpt is from the advertisement of the engine deigner/maker. The next is a short excerpt from a review in MAN by Peter Chinn/
I don't want to reveal the engine just yet, I am wondering if this will ring a bell for some.
The point of this is to ask why we are not tripping at our every step for the sheer numbers this engine should have been mfgd in.
Surely there is more to be learned here, especially for myself.

ChrisM, You got it right and very quickly!
LittleRock, I noticed that too and not sure where the difference lies
Everyone else, I have seen this engine mentioned in brief but little has been said here on the forum
I figured that it along with just about all the rest of the small engines under .10 was just another lame attempt to have something really competitive.
The more I have tried to find out the more it turns out that the Fox 07 may be more than a lot of us might realise. A sort of a sleeper.
From not so long ago:
The thing that astonishing about this engine is its ability to swing larger props than you might expect. This would be a large advantage for dirtier airplanes.
I don't mean this is a super screamer but has a good power to weight ratio. I think it would do better than the TTGP 07 for instance.

Well for the time being the post is there and as I'm not offering an engine for sale or representing Fox in any way I''d like to think that I was within acceptable guidelines of the forum. No, in spite of what you might think about Fox the small series. 049 both standard and FAI, 07 and 10 were very good motors in their day. Duke was smart enough to make a real head plug and do an acceptable job on the combustion design, plus the 049 had the option of tank or radial mounting. I owned all of them and can say with certainty that they offered true value for the money. Now why did they die, simple, No one not even Fox could stand up to that juggernat of a manufacturer, L.M.Cox and their production. He finally got tired of beating himself up and dropped the line. They were not bad motors just too many of the same thing at the same time, Isn't that a state that we would all like to be in today.
Oh and i did get the FAI Fox up to aboput 22K back then. Life time was very good on the motor. However I'm sure that you will still need 25% castor oil for them.

Here is the full ad from Fox. To my mind the only real dog Fox made was the Fox Rocket 09. The 07 has more fine features and Fox made an R/C version as well.
Swinging larger props makes it peform sort of like a diesel. Wonder if anyone has tried to dieselize one?

I have a FOX 0.7 that I have not run yet. I also have two FOX 0.7 Rc and have one in a Junior Falcon with Galloping Ghost radio. I have not flown it yet because I cannot get the throttle to work properly. [Not the engines fault] When I do fly it I may convert it to three channel with servos for more reliable control. I have flown the same setup ine a Jr. Falcon in the late 60,s.
I believe that I read once that the small FOX engines could use a longer prop because they were long stroke.

I have a Fox 07 RC too, it runs but I haven't put it in any plane...
What about spare glow heads/plugs?
I don't know when the ad is from (60-ties?) but Norvel certainly has shown what can be done with a bit of effort, both in terms of weight and power.

go to engines and scroll down to Fox. A few of the 049 parts will interchange with the 07 but not the glow head. See first picture.
I have also read that the Gilbert 07 head will fit. Virginia Hobby Sport also shows to have the Fox plain and FAI 049 engines. It probably would not be a bad idea to call and check stock before placing an order.

I know huh? Doesn't that look like the best combo you could dowith one of these 07s? Has anyone reading ever seen this kit or plan much less build it?
It just so happens that I have found one. I have not seen it yet... The tank described in the kit is bits of sheet metal...Some assembly required.
I called Fox and asked about the kit and engine and found very litle. I didn't think to ask about glow heads for the 07. No plan for the Stunt Runt is available.
While not the best looking model I have seen it doesn't look bad at all. Notice the thingies on the wings? Those are different!
For now these engines can be had pretty cheap and are not held in high regard. Not as high as I think they should. They don't show up as often as many other engines but are not rare or highly sought after. Could be the Fox 07's daty has come? Maybe not but the next closest engine would be the Thunder Tiger GP 07 weighing in at 3.35 ounces with it's muffler. Its power/weight ratio suffering.

If one does a search for the "Stunt Runt" you might also find a plane by Joy Products (now Balsa USA). The Joy Products offering is a really nice looking biplane also not to be confused with the control line model designed by Duke Fox for the Fox 07 compact stunt engine.
I have started a thread in the control line forum asking for information there and as yet no replies.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_9405813/tm.htm
I started the Stunt Runt thread a couple of days beore I started this thread.
You can see a drawing of the Fox Stunt Runt in post 6.
Quote by MJD:
"That 8x2.5 prop would be popular with the .10 to .15 3D'ers and scale biplane builders. Well, assuming the design were updated a bit."
Which brings to mind locating props suitable for the Fox 07. According to the Peter Chinn report just about any prop apretty wide variety up to that 8 X 2.5 prop were good choices in the BHP department.

I suspected he wanted C/L, but since he had an .07 R/C, I thought I would send it out.

Do you think you could locate some of the same prices shown in the ad? If we could only find engine and kit pricing from the 50's and 60's and radios from today, it would be great. The simple things have become much more expensive and the complex components have fallen in price, both in real and actual dollars. Go figure!![

No problem Andrew! The plan you posted should be a great R/C plane for the Fox 07 engine.

Funny you should bring that up! I just so happend to receive in the mail this morning a price list from Fox Mfg. dated June 15 1961

The "Sky Hook Trainer" was part number F-1 priced at $2.29 and the "Stunt Runt" was F-2 priced at $5.95.
Missle Mist and Fox Superfuel was priced eaqually at $.95/pt, $1.69/qt and $5.50/gal!
F-3 was a "Rumble Combat" for $6.95
F-4 a "Buzzard 54" for $2.95
F-5 a Tyrant Rat Racer for $5.95
F-6 a Giant Buzzard 144 for $24.95
