Default Hitec 5065MG servo x 2 quit working

Hey guys i was just wondering if anyone else had any problems with the Hitec 5065MG Digital Metal gear mini servos. I have 4 of them in my Extreme flight Extra 300 EXP. I have had two of them burn out now in the rudder position. First one burnt out before it ever got to fly. I was out flying this evening and I lost all left rudder control. Servo is burnt up again!!!! I got about 50 flights out of this one before it quit on me. It is still under warranty so i will get a new one but this sucks! I am wondering if maybe I should use something different for the rudder. Any suggestions?

I would say that the servo is probably a little light for the rudder duty on a 3D ship even of that size. The fact that it's the same surface that keeps burning out servos also points to that. Can you fit a little beefier servo in there for the rudder? Maybe a 5085mg or a 5245mg?

Another possibility is that the servo is being stalled at full deflection; i.e. jammed or stopped before the servo has moved to it's maximum travel due to physical restraints of some kind like hinges etc. That will kill any servo as when the motor is stalled in the servo yet being commanded to move farther, the current will be limited only by the resistance of the lead wire and armature wiring resistance.

I had the exact same problem (5065MG) with my Extra300, except it was the elevator servo. I lost elevator in mid-flight. Fortunately it was in slight decent and I was able to get it down without too much damage. I only had about six flights on it at the time. The servo was repaired under warranty and has been flawless since, but I've probably only put another 20 flights, or so, on it.

I think I have a couple of 5085 that I'm not currently using. I may have look into making those work.

I dont think the servo is binding at all since I am very careful to adjust end points so there is no binding. I hooked the servo up again last night and I think what I got this time around is a stripped gear. i spoke with Hitec and they told me that they would send me a new gear for it if that is what happened. the servo is working fine right now so I think it is missing a tooth. Problem is I do not have a screwdrive that is small enough to take it apart.
