FSR nitro boat ?

Hi guys
I visited a friend, he had an old boat in his driveway full of rain water.......[:@]
I told him what a shame to leave it there, and he said he was going to thow it in the trash soon....it had been there for some time.
Ofcourse I imidiatly said I would take it off his hands
So, what is it exactly ?
Im guessing its a FSR boat of some sort.
It has a poor looking CMB 90 nitro motor in it.
Huge sliding carb which I have not seen before.
A MASSIVE fuel tank.....must run for ages....or its just extremlt thirsty...looks like half a gallon.
The hull is extremly heavy.....there must be lead weight in there somewhere.....the fiberglass cant be that heavy itself.
Im going to pull it all apart, and see what condition it is in.
The engine actualy feels nice, even though it was full of water.
There has to be some oil in there since it feels allright.

Yes, sure it is a FSR-V 15 class boat. The hull maybe is a delfino or something around. I would say this is a boat from the late 80s or maybe begining of 90s. The fuel´s thank size is OK for a 30 minutes race. There are people around that can be much more precise thant I.

Motor looks to be junk.

It looks allright inside.
Looks like it has run lean, and taken a little flake of chrom off the cylinder wall.
It has also damaged the piston ofcourse.
Im going to polish it up, and clean out the "piston ring" groove.
Sure it will loose a little power, but I just want to make it run, and see how it goes as it is without buying parts

You know what they say,, 1 Mans Junk is another Mans Treasure,,
With a large tank like that it was most likely set up for Endurance Racing where you race for a set amount of Time, Not a set number of laps, Not everybody races like we do here in the US. I believe there are Endurance classes in both IMPBA and NAMBA but not many run them.
SJN You have a lot of work ahead of you to get that thing Screaming Again, it's a shame he left it out like that,, Must not have been something HE Built,,

You may be able to get it going enough to get that thing up on a good plain without many parts,, But I would bet money it won't do it for long, and it will most likely destroy a lot more the next time it goes. If your serious about getting that thing Screamin Again and not just On Plane you would be better off replacing the bearings, Piston, and Sleeve,,, Before it destroys the rest of the engine and makes it a good paper weight for your desk.

Amax and I agree on this one, rebuild the engine right the first time and save yourself some headaches. It was definately set up for endurance racing with that large of tank. If I were you, I'd rework the boat to a more modern set up with that CMB as a power source. It would definately make a good play boat as well as a good endurance racer[sm=wink_smile.gif]

I agree with you, that the engine should be rebuilt.
But I dont have any money to spend on this boat.
I got it for free, and just want to get as much fun out of it as possible.
5 minutes, or 5 hours....that is fine with me.
I know that sounds terrible, but at least it has a little better fate than the garbage crusher that I saved it from
And thank you guys for all the info so far [sm=thumbs_up.gif]

hehe...yea, soon
Im not very pleased with the carb.
It seems complicated, and could have air leaks lots of places.
Ill just have to try it out and see what happens

You may only get a few minutes with that sleeve before it sheds it's lining. I still recommend replacing it and the piston. The rest looks surprisingly good. I guess that goes back to the rest of the engine being aluminum except the bearings and crank.

Nice find there. That motor spares would be best to contact CMB themselves.
Lots info can be found here
http://www.modelboatracing.co.uk/
Good guy to try also is Ian Folksen http://www.iansboats.co.uk/
Or Dave Marles http://www.prestwich.ndirect.co.uk/
Both these two guys should be able to either have or find you spares for the 4 bolt 90. They were strong motors.
The hull looks like a shelack bottom with a delfini dek.

They don't have a home page. They rather work through their agents. Italian law prohibit them from selling directly to public or something like that.

I did not see pictures of that you've taken out the crankshaft.
The state it was in , I strongly recommend to replace the front bearing(s) and the needle-rollers.
Nothing wrong with that type of carburator , as long as you know how to set it up.
As even in the even older square CMB some parts of the Evo**** line will fit ,
I think that they will fit this engine too.
You could send me the liner/piston ,
so I can check in my private CMB-museum if a have a better liner.
Engine is a 70's CMB-ABC see [link=http://xavier.cardinale.pagesperso-orange.fr/Moteurs/cmb/CMB_history.html]CMB history[/link]
So .... 30 to 40 years old

Thank you very much for the information.
Nice to know the engine is soo old
I have started the engine, and it idle`s allright.
I have not had the time to play with it properly yet
