I agree!! Wish they were the same and unfortuneatly the fact that you have to verify with CC and the fact that in a couple of weeks you will start having to pay for an add is starting to discourage a lot of folks. Luckily I have a collection of emails from fellas that were advertising planes for sale, 3 of which I was in contact with via telephone. They all 3 said they did not like the site and were not going to pay to advertise planes. If you obviously have a dealer selling planes then sure they need to pay but just regular members I believe should not. What is the justification of the charge? Are sponsors and advertisers backing out? Are they not paying enough? Just my thoughts[]

Count me out..everything I liked about RC Universe is gone. And now they want us to pay? No way. I'm hoping someone will start up a website like RC Universe used to be., just like RC Universe started from that other site....Just my 2 cents...see ya.

What did you like? What is missing?
Everything that is here is what the users voted to have...

Here are a few things missing that pop to mind at the moment,

Buddy list
Subscriptions to individual threads
No BIG pop up ads
Classifieds adds with other forums
Easy to navigate format
The "quote" button
Ability to post polls and delete my own threads and polls
Ability to navigate "incognito"

Buddy list is still here.

Subscriptions to threads still here

There are no pop up ads

There are classifieds, and more

I find it easy to navigate

Quote buttom works, see below..

Polls and other options will all be back, and more once the site is running right. Like Marc has said, once all the major issues are taken care of, then its onto all these little things that we all love. It takes time.

Thanks

Yea, right. I'm sure someone has a few million laying around that's not doing anything. Sorry, but a site like this cost tons of money a month and there's no way ads alone is going to pay for it and provide them with a well deserved profit. Sure they're doing it for the love of the hobby- but they gotta eat too. It's obvious that this change was done with the long-term in mind.

You can adjust how often that full page ad shows up- mine's set ot 100. This place doesn't have any other popups. (You want to see some popups, go to one of those sites.)

I agree with the first two posters. This is better than the old site- and it's only gonna improve as time goes on.

they are not pop ups. close the window and see what happens, when you close the pop up you should be here still. You wont be here.

Besides,, just set it so they only come on every 100 views, thats not very often!!! Not a big deal.

Thanks for the support Goofup!

Blue, the search button is at the top of the main page on the right.

blue62..... are you saying that you want a search feature on the index/homepage/landing page of RCU? As soon as you click the forums button their is a search feature in the Fourm Nav.

I think that the new site is great! Sure there are a few things that need to be tweaked ar added. People need to have a little patience. Considering the size of the RCU community, I think that the transition to the new site went well.

I also don't know why people are complaining about paying $20 a year for a basic subscription. I pay more than that for some of my magazine subscriptions. If you don't sell much if any stuff, you still get it for free.

I totally agree with this statement. As far as the "Pop up adds" set your prefs to show every 100 posts. I don't mind them at all, I mean it's not like they are adds for Viagra or online dating.

Is anyone else seeing a slowdown in speed here? For me it is 5x faster than old rcu. if you are having speed issues turn OFF they dynamic menu header by going to the MyAccount page and set to OFF. This may speed things up. If not then post here how long it takes pages to load and how much it took old RCU pages to load. Our servers are at 5% capacity (we have 9 of them running RCU now as opposed to 2 before).

Polls are here btw and so is the other stuff. Not everything will be in the same place. A search box will be added to every page soon. You will be able to choose what part of the site to search using it (forums, magazine reviews, product guide, classifieds, auction, etc...)

ROME WAS NOT BUILT IN A DAY! Thank you for your patience loyal RCU supporters.

I noticed when the site came online at home and at work, when browsing the menu header would show for a significant amount of time, and then the rest of the page would fill the screen. This behavior occurred when pressing the back button also, which was very annoying. Sure enough disabling the menu like you suggested today fixed the problem completely. Page loads are near instantaneous now.

I might ad that at home I was using dialup with a 1.4ghz computer, and at work was a 3.5mb connection with a P4. Even with the high-speed connection, I still saw this behavior. You might consider making a more drastic change to the menu.

Yes Marc I am seeing some slow down on the main pages. The loading bar at the bottom of the browser will fill but it will set on ther blank blue/green page for between 10-20sec before loading a page and then the page will take a little longer to fill. It doesnt seem to happen going between forum pages though

I'm not seeing any slowdown at all. Any page is fully loaded in no more than 2 seconds. Course, I have DSL.

If you want to talk slow, RC Airport was slow! I hated that thing.

I have dial-up and the site loads quite swiftly as far as I can tell. I can't refrence it to anything but other sites, as I wasn't here for the old one, but for the content I think it really moves.
Just my 2 cents from slow-low dial-up hell
